Electrical Issues, please help!!!

Fairly new to growing and I am in a new place where i just pluged my 1000 watt set ups into the wall sockets and I have blown that part of the house out. Cant get any power there anymore. What are you to do in order to run all your equipment if your outlets cant hold it? I was running 2 100o watt bulbs and a few other small things. I am not sure how to handle this area. I am now running lead cords from other parts of the house, but there has to be another way?

A 1000 watt ballast draws roughly 9.5 amps @ 120v. Double that and yer at 19 amps..

You probably have either a 15 amp breaker or a 20 amp breaker serving that room. Either way it's maxxed out. Ya shouldn't exceed 75% of the listed amperage of the breaker when growing to be safe...

you nedd to reset the breaker..and see if you get yer power back. When you do that you'll see on the breaker what amperage it is...and that will give you an idea of what you can/cannot run in there.

Might need to replace the breaker...hope your running industrial cords...I wouldnt use anything less than 10 gauge for my lights..Also check for gfi on the circuit,,might have to reset it

yeah you have to flip the breaker back its easy to do, unless your house is super old you might have to change the fuse

Thanks for info however the breaker isnt tripped and i also changed the breaker and put a new one in the box and still didnt solve problem. The breaker runs 6 outlets in one area of my place. Not sure where to go from there to fix problem?

none of the outlets are gfi's? Its allways good to run a homerun (a direct line) from your room straite to your box on its own breaker. Attics make this not so much trouble and a whole lot less hassle than cords running all over and having a worry of a fire. You can always grab a book from home depot and run the line or lines yourself and have a electrician hook the line and breaker to the box. He would have no idea what the lines are to or where they go and all his work at that point is outside at the box. Adding something like a hot tub also takes this work. just a thing to throw out there. Its so worth it to be safe when it comes to electricity.. #1 actually.. No plant can outlast a fire no matter how good it is.. hahaha.. good luck..

flip the breaker off and pull the outlet thats not working and check to see if its is bad.Now flip the breaker on and check the wires going to the outlet and see if you have power.If you dont have power on those wires, there is a problem some place else.Than you should call a electrician and get that fixed so you dont have a fire.There is one thing I didnt think about ,is there a gfic outlet on one of those outlets.If so the reset on that outlet is tripped.Push the button back in and you should have power.Thats all I can think of right now,hope it helps.PEACE

Put your finger in the outlet and test it... thats what I do... but then again that could be whats wrong with me

Every plug on the breaker are not working? There are about 6 outlets on the breaker. Could the wires going into the box be fried and if so what does it need to be rewired???

yeah there are way more electrical fires then you would think, imagine coming home one day to no house, then having the plants be there all fine with a heavenly glow around them! =]

The wire that leads to the breaker could be loose. and after asking the wire to send the power enough to light the light it arced and burnt a small sectoin of the wire so there would be no contact.

I would kill the main breaker and take off the panel cover and give a small pull on the wires for that breaker. REMEMBER KILL THE WHOLE HOUSE OR YOU COULD DIE...

Get an outlet tester....2 dollar toolo at your local hardware store...start testing all affected outlet...Also get a tool for twenty bucks called a greenlee..test for power in a given wire...ohms or amp meter for amperage and voltage and continuity..the latter can be expensive..Good luck..hope you find your answer man...think i'd be telling the miss's to stay at moms tell ya got it figured..these issues can be a death trap as well as a way to lose your freedom through the fire department responding to a call and discovering your goldmine..peace

If the first outlet from the box is blown out none behind them will work. start with that one. remember either way there is a problem to be fixed it will blow again. How old is your house.. A homerun is worth it..
