That's definitely a fair price. On another note, I ran another 200 amp service from the pole to my shop and did it to code, just by researching and asking friends. Permitted and everything. You could try and do some of the grunt work like drilling holes an pulling wire to cut some of the cost but sounds like you would be more comfortable with a pro doing it, I don't blame you. Most good electricians in my area run about 100 per hour. Piece of mind is priceless.

That's like paying a
Machanic 800$ to replace your alternator . You said this is in your basement so I'm sure your panel is I your basement as well ??

Unless your panel doesn't have any openings and he has to wire in a sub panel and run wire threw a crawl space or volted ceilings , seems like a a lot but if Ya willing to pay more power to ya good look

I was going to say, that I was not familiar with doing electrical work until I started looking into it. After the 200 amp service, I ran all my outlets and switches and put the new breaker box, then called the local grower friendly electrician. He hooked up the timer and relays and doublechecked what I did. Still payed him 200 bucks tho. He actually caught a mistake that I had made that had potential for trouble down the road. My 200 bucks was well spent. Amazing what you can figure out with the ole internets. Still nice to have a pro in the mix.

Seems like a fair price. It cost me around $200 in materials to run 2 110v circuits with 6 outlets on each line and a 240v circuit with 2 outlets, and expansion room for 2 more. He's putting a panel in your room which is a little bit more $$. Figure 6 hrs labor @~$50/hr and you're in the $500 ballpark. We had a quote of $700 just to swap out our old 100A panel with a newer one we can actually buy replacement circuit breakers for.

Thats a very fair price, im an electrician, and for what he is doing, you probably couldnt get a better deal from any other professional thats for sure. Plus you have kids, dont cut corners, electricity is dangerous shit especially when you have young ones running around who are naive to the dangers.

just one lump number. licensed and insured however i didnt ask about permits. i am looking for peace of mind cuz i have kids and im in a rental. he says it will be out of sight and professional. he also showed me pics of other much larger setups he has down and all looked legit.
You're probably not allowed to modify the wiring without the owners permission.

Ur prolly right. I'm hoping I can get the electrician to wire it inconspicuously and something I can remove when necessary. I'm sure my landlord wouldn't really be happy about me growing either. Hoping to fly under the radar. It didn't say I can't in my lease however Ive read that doesn't really matter. Their house their rules.
