Electricity Bills

fir3dragon, my m8 used 2 run 2400w through 4, 600w hps lamps. the electric company kept sending him letters telling him they will force entry to put a new smart meter in if he keeps failing to respond to the letters. he has now got the smart meter in and he now needs to find a way around it? has any1 got around this yet?
I live in the us.. The smart meters here are digital meters that they can sit on their ass in the office and read off the computer. I never got letter cause I was out of state but they installed it anyways and charged me out the ass saying I used power I argued and argued with them but they wouldn't do shit..

The average before suspicion is aroused is generally over 1kwh used per hour per bedroom.

This is the approx info that electricity companies use.

For example.
1 bedroom place = 24kwh over a 24hour period
2 bedroom place = 48kwh over a 24hour period.

You get the idea.

What actually worries me slightly is the introduction of smart meters. Hopefully we'll be able to decline having one fitted. Otherwise it will tell elec companies etc what times devices are being switched on and how much draw they put on the system etc.

I'm going to try and decline the smart meters; I don't like it as all the electricity stats can be seen by your provider any time they want.

Paranoia. As long as u pay your bill the power companies don't care. They want your money.

I'm afraid that in the UK it's not always the same because when the electricity providers send out people they hire to check your electricity meter reading they will notice a difference from the previous times your electricity was read and they sometimes will decide to take the matter further even if you do pay them on time.

The largest way to get busted is for helicopters to do a heat scan over your house or when the helicopters are on patrol for suspicious heat coming from houses (pretty much what I just said), I always have helicopters literally going past my house every god damn night although my setup isn't really suspicious even though I'm not using any sort of ventilation except from opening my windows once in a while which I'm going to have to do more often because my plants are in veg but one of them is starting to smell like bud for some reason :D

If you have a small setup even with no ventilation (max 10 plants) there is a low chance of you getting caught unless you are flowering and using HPS or some sort of lights that give of a lot of heat, LED don't give out too much heat but are pretty pricey so it's a difficult choice to make to purchase LED's.... anyway I'm kind of going off topic now :D

I understand about the helicopters, but think how many people are growing-if someones got a big setup in a stupid place, thats asking for trouble but they just dont have the resources to bust everyon thats got a couple of small tents going;thats not to say you can rub their noses in it either though, obviously.
You have to watch with electricity guys, some are real jobsworth cunts. In a way Id rather have a smart meter than risk having one of them appear unexpectedly at the wrong time!Definitely!

Some people do have some tutorials on changing your meter reading so one of them should work although because my setup is small I'm not going to hack my meter. (I can afford the bill for now :p)

i run 800 watts worth of light plus fans a pump plus my entire house which is 2 story and decent size not to mention old. My bill is 100-120 a month.

We do pay on the plan where they keep it the same throughout the year so i dont notice the spike in winter or it would be like 75 in summer and 175 in winter..Still man seems the money you would save from 1 plant would justify it or does for me.

I never think it is a good idea to bring any chance of added scrutiny whether prop215 or not because once you do that you are no longer compliant and i would assume considered just as illegal as the guy who isn't.

You have an advantage then as you have a fixed bill, here in the UK if no one is home when the people come to check your meter they estimate your bill based on your previous readings as they can not see how much you have used without actually seeing it themselves (this is a sort of advantage)

Easy way to work it out 4 hours is 1kw so 20 hours is 5kw x 14pence =70pence per day multiply by 30 days = £21 simples buddy
