Also you can help make up for that, if you have incandescents in your house, replace them with very cheap cfls, and they will save you a lot of money, normally a 27 watt cfl outputs about the same amount of light as a 150 watt incandescent.

Depends on your electric company, there rates and associated taxes and fees.
Peace

(Edit) The more I think about your post, something has got to be wrong here dude. $70.00 for one hps and a couple of cfl's? No way. There's more to this equation that just those lights you mentioned.

I'm in New England as well...my 400 watt HPS + (2) 42 watt CFL's boosted my bill by about 70 bucks a month....apparently your mileage can vary.

There is so much you can do to lower your electric bill or offset it.

Wash laundry in cold water only

Lower thermostat on water heater to 120 degrees

Put timer (called gray box) on water heater huge $$$ saver

Line dry laundry

Use motion sensors outside instead of lights that stay on all the time

also a big saver in my place was to switch to CFLs for lighting my place and put all stereo stuff and tv on a plug board with on/off switch. also leaving the pc and tv not running 24/7 and only having lights switch on if i need them is a big saver on my bill;)

and laundry can be washed nowadays at 85-95F and still get clean as mogie pointed out:)

The one thing i didn't mention was my vortex fan which is another ~ 80 watts. Add it all up...for a 30 day month thats an additional 304 kW hour...19.1 cent per....thats ~60 bucks. How much are you guys paying per kW hour?

Yeah dude you are getting raped! 19.1 cents per....WoW, you are getting screwed. I pay more like half that. Think about taking it outside.

You know back onto saving money, one thing that has always intrigued me are those tankless hot water heaters, or "on demand" hot water heaters. No paying to keep a 40 gallon tank of water hot, makes sense to me. They are reasonably priced too, about $400.00 for a unit.

I think I need to see how much I paying per kw because I dont want to get raped either. I have my project going at my friends house and I dont want him to get surprised when he sees his light bill even though I'll being putting some money on his bill

Costs me 20 quid a week to run 3 400w lights. 2 on flower and one on veg. I will be turning over every 4-5 weeks. 4 plants in dwc. It's my first time in dwc so no idea on yield yet. I'm working on a minimum of 2oz per plant. which is 8oz per 5 weeks. Leaves me 3oz to cover expenses. Of course the 2oz is a minimum, dwc provides excellent yields. If I allow 150 for expenses I've still got a couple hundred to slip in the pocket. Then there's the clones... there's a lot of lazy people out there who are quite willing to pay up to a tenner each on them. In fact I've made more money doing the clones than I could if I sold my total yield.
