I've been browsing this forum for a long time, after reading this post i decided to register and give you my opinion.
9 years ago my uncle had his huge grow busted because he tampered with the power meter. His house (ranch) nestled on 150 of the most secluded acres you can imagine, was forfeited to the feds (he owed $39k on the 30 year home loan). Along with cars, guns and money that wasn't acquired through the grow op. In fact, he was 2 weeks away from his very first harvest.
A union electrician with 30 years experience my uncle. He bypassed the meter all together by wiring directly into the power pole transformer area (that takes balls). because his ranch was located in an extremely rural area, my uncle telephoned in the meter consumption reading to PG&E every month. Once a year PG&E would setup a time and date for my uncle to meet a meter person for verification of the readings (due to 4 locked gates and 16 miles of dirt road).
PG&E was doing a fly over surveillance of tree growth around the power pole / lines, they discovered the spliced line from the air. Needless to say, he lost his home valued around $1.3M (9 years ago), two trucks and a car. Along with family heirlooms including vintage Winchester 70 rifles valued around $70K each and he spent 3 out of the 5 year prison sentence received.
I don't know you and I'm not trying to tell you what to do but, your chances of getting busted for more than just stealing power are in the 75% range. No doubt a bust for stealing power for a grow op will make the local news. If your willing to sacrifice your freedom for a few bucks worth of electricity then you need help.
A much better way to get the power you need without ever raising suspicion is to rent a small warehouse with ample power. You can get one around here for about $750 Mo.
One other possibility would be that you change your lighting from 120 to 240. Don't quote me on this but I think it's cheaper on the bill.
Good luck,
Buzzard.
