EMERGENCY: iPower ballast blew, no lights!

I switched into flowering about 4 days ago. Yesterday my iPower 400w digital ballast fried. I have ordered another but won't be here until Monday. I was going to buy a bunch of CFLs to hold me over, but stumbled upon a 250w halogen worklight, it said about 9000 lumens and 2900K spectrum... can I use this to hold me over for 2-3 days until my other ballast comes? It's a 4'x4' area.

Sorry to hear that, how many plants are you growing? The worklight should be ok but I would get some CFLs also to compensate.

Halogen lights get too hot...it will not work..too much heat but not really enough light.

I just realized it gets crazy hot! But technically shouldn't it be the same as an other HID that is 250w with a 2900K spectrum... minus the intense heat? I think I'm going back to get CFLs anyway. And I have two giant plants in there... each about 3-4 tall and each about 3 feet wide... they spent 6 weeks in veg.

Why is that? Is the only draw back heat? Otherwise 250w, 9,000 lumens, 2900K spectrum, sounds like a spot on light for $9.

Just switched the halogen for 2 - 150w equivalent CFLs with 2700K spectrum and 2600 lumens each with reflectors... I know it's not enough to grow... but I'm just using it to get me through the weekend... I can't ask for this weekend to pass any faster!

Yes... yes I did! Purchased a new one, better quality... but also sent the fried one back on warranty. So if this ever happens again, I'll have a backup 400w digital.
