Yeah, the 600 gets the job done. Good analogy haha, so true. First harvest would more than pay for any hydro costs and give you more time to invest in a quality LEDIt's a 100 watt blurple...I wouldn't recommend this light. If budget is an issue, I'd look at HPS fixtures-a 600 watt vivosun is $129. Your light is the heart of your grow, do you want the heart of a silverback gorilla or of an elderly spider monkey?
I agree completely, there is not a 1 to 1 replacement for led’s to HID’s. But led’s can produce nice yields and potency. Remember you can bring them much closer than HID’s. They produce very little heat. So no burning from heat. The biggest issue with led lighting is that to produce as much light as HID lights you need more space and the initial cost is rather high. But from my experience (and a few friends) it is worth doing if you can. Also I personally avoid blurple lights. I buy full spectrum lights only.Beware of any LED that claims or insinuates something like 600 or 1000 watts when it draws much less. This is a red flag.
Look at the ACTUAL wattage the light uses and if it's a decent quality then you can use 35 watts per square foot as the rule for coverage. So if you have a 4x4 tent, you have 16 square feet and therefore are looking for a light that pulls about 560 watts from the wall. This light pulls only 100 watts and I wouldn't want to try and cover more than 2.85 sqft with it, that equates to an area about 1.7 x 1.7 feet in size. Maybe one small plant.
Some LED lights are meant to be run at 30+ inches like the HLG 550 and 650 lights or Timber COB lights for example. Other LED lights are designed to be run much closer like 6 - 12 inches, lights like the Fluence Spydr 2i.Remember you can bring them much closer than HID’s.
@Johnny LawrenceI recently purchased three led lights from Mars hydro. They were $258 a piece. Almost $800 in total. And I am at the end of my first run with them. With great results. They are the same. They equal 300 watts each. N I did 4 plants. You will need at least two for your plants.
