Hi all. I'm new to RIU but I think its a great site and I've already received some very good advice from here. I have a communications business that I run in Indiana. I started this business about 2 years ago when I worked side-by-side with the boss at my old company. I saw him being very lazy and he was raking in the cash and I wanted in. He refused to let me be "a partner," so, I saved some cash...told him I quit, and went out the next day and made up a name, got business ins., bought a web site, and called all my old clients. It was a lot like the scene from Jerry McGuire when he leaves and tries to take his clients with him. I only had a limited amount of time to beat my old boss to my "potential" clients and get them to take the leap with me. You know what, one did! This was the beginning.
If your wondering what kind of Comm company I have, theres lots of kinds, its a low-voltage one. I do....data infrastructure, fiber optics, security, CCTV, fire systems. Yes, I work right beside cops a lot of times and I help set up "stings" on thiefs. I have no problem with setting up cameras in a managers office and lettting him get cought on camera. I don't like thiefs and thats that. Now that the recession has hit, my business took a 180 and I do a lot of CCTV and security systems. Its a service based business and it works well. I run Quickbooks for invoicing and tracking. Quickbooks is a MUST HAVE if you start a business now adays. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post and I'll help. If you have ideas for your business please shoot them at me. I'm very good at look at the "real" business, and not delusions of grandeur, that most people have when starting off. I'll tell it how it is. Hope all had a Merry Christmas and have a great New Year!
