I was browsing the HID's in Ebay, fantasizing about a Gavita sytem, when I saw this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ePapillon-1000W-papillon-light-digital-ballast-/201002333395?pt=UK_Baby_Baby_Feeding_Bottle_Warmers_Coolers_LE&hash=item2eccac34d3

The more I read about lighting, the more I see Lumateks, Solis Teks and AdjustaWatts as home/amateur lamps.
High end home lamps - Much better than Maxibrights and Lumii or Quantum.
But still designed and priced for amateur HOME grows.
GRAVITA's need 400v double ended EL lamps.
They are the INDUSTRIAL PROFESSIONAL choice.

The ePapillon looks similar to a Gavita but costs considerably more - about 20-25% more.
A 1000w Lumatek set up (ballast, bulb, reflector) starts at around £250-£280 (depending on choice of bulb and reflector). You can, of course, pay much more but, at the lower end, this prce is about right.

A 1000w Gavita set up costs about £450
They only take Philips EL lamps (Electroluminescent) which are quite expensive
The ballast can connect with (and hag next to) the reflector - this cuts down any RF interference - a problem I have never hd with my Lumatek.

Then I saw this ePapillon set up.
It looks more like a Gavita than a Lumatek, Solis Tek or AdjustaWatt
It costs a whopping £549 !

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM...?

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GAVITA'S...??

Just as a point of interest, A Solis Tek 1000w ballast with LCD display and IR remote control costs £425 in UK (that's about $640) and there's only one shop that sells them.
It's not even on ebay, it's on AMAZON UK.

This is what I know on them

Gavita is/was the best and industry leader. The epapillon is just phillips(america) version of the gavita system. It's reflector is slightly different(not better or worse), but it's the same as gavita other than that. They both use the same phillips double ended 400v bulb. Those bulbs last and keep lumens 3X longer than a mogul style bulb.

The 400v bulbs with the gavita/phillips ballast are the only ones designed to be pushed over 1000w. There is the 1150w setting because it's meant to do it...not just capable of it, then shortening the life substantially.

They are not air cooled, and are the most intense of all the hps, so they need to be hung higher. Not every situation can handle a gavita.

I and every one in this section are LED guys...but if I were to get the ultimate hps, it would be a gavita.

Sounds like the ePapillions price is due to it being an American item not usually sold in UK.
I already showed how much cost this situations puts on the solis tek over here.

I like the sound of a Gavita BUT I really must start learning about ED's.
