ESA inspection

Anyone getting their grows inspected by the ESA (electrical safety authority).

I am pretty experienced with doing my own electrical work, I've swapped panels and had ESA inspection and passed every time.

Now I was debating getting my grow room inspected. But so far I haven't let a soul into the room except my grow mentor.

What does everyone do? Do you guys get your shit inspected?

But if there was a fire in the grow room. Would t you get ducked for not having the inspections?

I have my ACMPR so it's all legal etc. I just don't let people into my grow as a rule. the question is what's the wisest course of action? Running about 7-8000W of light and and another 3KW for the AC. Fair bit of draw to fly dirty no?

If your insurance finds out even with inspections they won't cover you...period.
You can get insurance if you don't mind paying roughly 4 times what you pay now. There is a thread here about it...not a fun read I'm afraid.
Not sure if your in Canada. This is info on Canadian grows here. If you are.....you got some sad learning to do.
Now if you opt to pay the insane high premium then yes you would need inspected. And professionally installed as well.
Plus with the amount of hydro you'd suggested you could be using you have a lot of other factors to consider. Yes with the 11kw you propose plus more for fans, pumps, Blowers, C02 etc you better be 200% sure of the install and it's ability to provide that. Get a lot of pro help...imo you have no choice. You not talking a 4x4 tent there.
The insurance is the other BIG issue.

Yes I am an Canadian patient sir.
I am not worried about the install being correct. Hence why I don't mind if the ESA comes to inspect the work. I am confident in the work.

I've read a couple articles. Hit lost of them talk about how it's more risk because it ain't he basement blah blah. My grow is not in the. Basement and shares ones block wall with the house.

But I live in a small enough town where So I don't really want an inspector (someone who gets around town) looking at my shit and saying how Theres a grow here blah blah.
In the men's time I got the smoke detector with my controller and everything is sized with room to go on the electrical circuits.

Yeah the situation is fubar....even though you're legal, insurance companies hear grow op and its like a WMD factory in your home.

IMO there is no choice but to fly dirty. I wouldnt worry about the power consumption. Like Hippy said make sure all your work and gear is up to task.

You don’t need the pat on the back. If there was a problem you would know by now. Keep it under 200amp residential so you don’t blow the can on the pole outside lol

I always use risk vs reward, I just do not see any reward, from inspection day forward no matter what caused a fire, flood or mold your now clued in insurance will blame your grow and refuse to pay, small towns require even more secrecy IMO

Post pictures and specs here if you need the pat on the back. Plenty of us are very familiar with the NEC and NFPA. If your install is correct you wont have a fire. (From electrical)
I may later. I am actually super comfortable with electrical work, I am a contractor and a welder so I am always running zappy things.

For example for lighting in my room
Running two 30amp (10AWG) @240V circuits for lighting. Each circuit is only seeing 15-17 amps

The hydro bill will be enormous. As long as you got that covered you should be good. The local hydro offices is usually more concerned it's paid than ratting you out.

Good point I didn't even think of it stressing out the hydro people. Though my place has had a 200amp service for 10 years and I've been running a high draw already 5Kw heater all winter, rod ovens, weldong machines vent fans etc.

Well obviously they know every watt you use. Some hydro companies will inquire with you if your bill suddenly surges. They think they are being helpful. Be ready with some answer in case they call...or worse come looking.
Huge increases in bills draw attention. They usually don't care as they just want to money.

Bout a grand a month if you run at night. Better hope you can move your bud eh!?!
I don't sell my bud, Even if I did the market is so garbage people are giving it away their so much garbage out there.

Before I started growing for myself I was spending easilllllly $1200-1800/ month on weed. I smoke 2oz per week flower and some concentrates and edibles through the week. . It's just better for me to spend $1K/mo on hydro than $1200+ buying weed and often getting shit I am unhappy with. Not to mention I love the gardening itself, its like therapy for me.

I'll have about 12,000W (at max) draw for 12h/day. And then about 1000W for the rest of the 24h
This is equivalent to 13000W per 12h.

@15 cents (max rate, although I run at night so it will be lower) per KWh this gives us

13KW x $0.15/KWh= $1.95/h

$1.95 x 12h/day = $23.40/ day or $702/mo
