ever hear about the guy who commited suicide... with a hammer?

I saw the other thread about the murder/suicide investigation, and remembered a case from the early 80's of a guy the PD ruled a suicide. It was in Indiana... He supposedly smashed his head 32 times with a hammer. It was later decided that it may have been a homicide...

Besides if you're going to commit suicide, why would you choose that method? That doesn't make sense.

He was an ex-cop, apparently... And, the police department are the only ones that said it was suicide...

EDIT: Worked with the cops or something, he was a railroad conductor. I think it was finally ruled a murder.

Maybe he was known to the police as being a sexual predator or something like that, they couldn't prove it and so when they found him dead they just tried to sweep it under the rug...
