You can do this same thing with SPDT relays and a timer a lot cheaper. There probably isn't $10 worth of electronics in most the 'switchers' out there.
Yes, make vs buy is always an option. This guy sounds like a buyer.

I'm already assuming the the first crop will be a failure. That is built in to my calculations. If it isn't a failure, that's just a bonus for me.

I don't know how much time it will to to garden. At first, I will have only about 60 plants! Soon after, I will be able to legally grow about double that. And, then, at some point in the future when I get a third patient I should be able to about triple it to somewhere around 200 plants.

I can spend a few hours a day doing it. That's the amount of time I can put in.

I hope I will be able to leave the shit alone for like 48 hrs every once and a while when absolutely neccessary.
First time I had a good crop. Beginner's luck. Hydroponic. Then I went from 4 to 12 plants.

I just recently lost 1/2 of the second harvest to root rot. . I had spent 6 months and $5K putting together a computer controlled automatic system. Left it alone for a few days. I admire your drive. But, I put in 12-15 hr days getting dialed in. Farming is work. I'm a bad helper, terrible boss, always pumping water onto the floor. Murphy rules. I know a guy that grows in soil but with a lot of plants. NOT as many as 200, however.

He is full time and says a week is typically 60 hrs. Don't forget harvest, drying, and curing, at the same time new plantings go in.

My advice, plan, plan, plan, prototype, plan, implement in phases.

wtf 200 plants for 3 ppl? and u say u are legal?!!?? if ur american growing over 99 plants risk a mandatory minimum 5 years in prison if the feds raid u. and i think the max for canada is 45 plants for 3 ppl, 15 maximum per person (3 gram a day dosage).
u remind me of some guy on here posting his grow and killed his plants from high PH cause he kept watering his plants with nutes then said hes gonna go hydro for more control over his plants!!!!!

Well, I'm pretty confident in my ability to research and learn the basics before I begin. It's going to require an incredible amount of dedicated studying, but that's okay.

As for the size, it's simply a matter of "if you're gonna do something, do it right."
Yeah, if you're gonna do something do it right which means learning the ropes before you have 10,000 watts of ruined plants and a ton of wasted time. It's really worth your effort to learn through trial and error. Reading is great, but every strain and environment is different. When you say 10k, do you mean $10,000 or 10,000 watts?

If you all will notice this guy has been posting for over a year with big plans and not a one of them seem to have been acted upon. don't waste your time. I don't see one picture of even a goddamn closet let alone a 10k wtfever grow.

...... man ...... you guys have no idea ..... i'm jumping into this shit full throttle and dropping alot of cash. I've never grown before. Looks like this is shaping up to be an epic 10 k grow by a total newb. it's gonna be ..... interesting. haha.
full throttle but you must be in reverse talking about this shit for a year and haven't even got a heater..

^^^ lololol. Anyone that is going to spend that much money is obviously going to go gung ho. I love when people say, oh well if i put my mind to it i can achieve it. thats like saying i want to be an astronaut, i have no fucking idea what that entails, just as you have no idea what growing has in store for you. For all the people in cali making money off this, theres a million others talking about it. i only have 4 lights and that shit is a full time job. your talking about 10k watts, no experience, and already talking about taking vacations away from your plants?

Oh you plan to just suck your first run... ok. well what about the 2nd run? your just going to learn so much from letting the first one go that you plan to be a pro after that'?? give me a fucking break.

If you start with 10k watts, your best investment would be a full time helper that knows what hes doing. If not, your setting yourself up for failure, and ill be the first to drop a bet against you.

You just posted a thread about how your going to "heat" a growroom. That right there tells me that you not only have no idea what you are doing, but you arent intelligent at all. You can read, you can research, but nothing is going to replace actual experience.

Growing is a huge part of my life now. i have been in it for a little over a year. I spend more than half the day around plants and i love it. Even with that, and my dedication, I KNOW that i have an insane amount to still learn. I have done a few runs and am still trying to work out the odds and ends. I give 110% everyday and i can tell you firsthand, that WONT BE ENOUGH. Start small and work your way up.

I'm not American. However, I am writing a thesis on your country's shitty drug war and bureaucracy and a bunch of other shit you'd probably find boring. All I can say is - you guys really have your heads up your asses down there. Thank God I'm in Canada.

I have a serious spinal cord disorder that leaves me in constant pain. I was told about year ago that I'm not a candidate for surgery. A neurologist told me that "more aggressive pain managment", read - oxycontin - was my only option. Fuck that noise! Also, I do NOT smoke weed. I eat weed everyday and every night. That's why my prescription is so high. It's 12 grams a day. And I think I am actually using slightly more than that, at this point, but it's to tell with the variation between potency in batches that I cook.

My second patient who is going through the paperwork process right now, will - I'm ASSUMING - get at least as big a prescription as me. The guy has a disease called ankyolizing spondalitis, which leaves him in incredible pain. One day he will be confined to a wheelchair. On top of that - and this seems almost bizarrely cruel - the fucking guy got diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. He's barely 30 years old. Talk about bad luck. When he was first diagnosed he was prescribed morphine. He wasted two years of his life in bed, totally spaced out, gobbling morphine that his doctor was adamant he needed. I've seen him go through the struggle to get off that shit and switch to marijuana, which gave him his life back. He can even walk fairly well now, albeit with a cane. And he has a job in the financial industry - something that people thought he would never be physiclly capable of doing. So yeah, if anybody needs a textbook case of a success story, my friend is it. So, I'm assuming his prescription will be somewhere around where mine is.

I will be able to grow for myself and 3 others in the space. I can grow for myself and two patients. And someone else whose a good freind of mine can also grow thier prescription in there. So, yeah, around 200 plants is a reasonable estimate.

I have this thing called a "life." It basically entails all kinds of shit that happens beyond the narrow scope of weed. A year ago was not the right time. Now is the right time.

Some people on this website have been so patient and helpful with me, I can't express how appreciative I am. However, a large percentage of the people here, like you, seem to spend alot of time stroking your ego while simultaneously shitting on other people.

I have been nothing but humble - I admit I know almost nothing and I'm deferential to the knowledge of people here at rollitup.

There's no reason for you to accuse me of being a liar a bullshit artist. And there's no reason for you to insult my intelligence.

There is a reason why I haven't started small. I live in a fucking condo in the heart of downtown where the cost of living per square foot is absolutely ridiculous. I don't have enough room to grow a single fucking plant. I need a second space. Since I need to drop money on a second space, the difference between a shitty one and a fantastic one is fairly slim. I might as well spend the money to do it right. There are many other factors involved, such as now beinga good time to buy interest rate wise, and the fact that Health Canada may alter the medical system in a way that fucks me in the ass in the near future. See? You don't know any of those things. I know those things because they are relevant to my life. So next time you want to ignorantly assume shit about the choices I'm making remember that you have no fucking idea what the context or reason for those choices is.

I mean 10,000 watts.

As for the cost of the setup my very, very rough - and VERY prelimary - estimate is somewhere around $16,000 for lights, ballasts, insulating, labour, installation of the electric shit in a safe way, light movers, carbon filter, etc. That might go up quite a bit though.

Phillipchristian convinced me to go soil for at least the first few grows. I won't delve into hydro right away. I trust that guy.

I also think I'm going to make two flowering rooms where I was planning to make one. I can keep them seperate and experiment with different methods with less risk that a fuckup or infestation will destroy the whole crop.

You can get switchers for the ballasts. Run two rooms, 12x12 hr. 1 room's waste heat, warms the other. Then reverse. Good kit if you are spending that kind of dough.
Good point. Good point. As I said in the last post I've been thinking about 2 rooms ..... the heat thing would be a bonus I hadn't considered yet.

taking care of a big grow will take care of that "life" , growing on any scale takes dedication and fuckloads of work, if you're as injured as you say I'd be hiring someone to run that grow of yours.

ask anybody here that's sat at a table trimming for more than 4 hours. working a grow will certainly make those oxy's look better.

if you use electric heaters, air conditioners or whatever just make sure they all have decent thermostats on them, so you dont have to worry about over heating or over cooling

I guess i deserved that. but put yourself in my shoes and read your first few posts.

and like said above... If you really do have those medical conditions, your going to need alot more help than you think. growing is A lot of work, and thats why i was hating, because people dont think it is, and they jump into something big. I'm just letting you know that you are in over your head, and if your trying to be successful your not going to get there with hopes and dreams. Not to mention i know the price of herb in canada, making it even harder to be successful. Get full time help, pay them well, and you might get a chunk of success.

as far as the laws go, i dont know how it works there, but in America.. they dont give a fuck about your medical condition, if you got more than 99 in one building, someone is going to jail...

Also, knowing a little bit about how this works, i think your guestimate of 16gs if probably about half of what its really going to cost you.. and thats before you pay the guy that knows what hes doing.

good luck though, i hope it works out for you. and instead of taking everyones negative feedback as a "fuck you".. maybe think that what you are trying to do, is run a marathon when you haven't learned to walk.
Like me telling someone that plays for the redsocks that Ive never played baseball before but i want to try out for the team. Its almost insulting that you think you are going to be successful. maybe im an asshole haha i dont know, im high. cheers

maybe I'm an asshole too but that last part patrick said kind of sums it up for me. I know you want to jump in with both feet but I just can't take you seriously after seeing you've posted about this a year ago. If you're gonna jump in with both feet I say go for it but if you're gonna bullshit around and this time next year be asking what nutrients you should use on your first grow (that you still haven't started) , maybe you're going about it the right way but personally I don't have the time to just sit around and talk about things that aren't going to happen.

Yeah, this actually worries me, especially since my condition has deteriorated so much in the last six months and I don't know where I will be at six months down the line. I can still walk and shit - it's not that bad. But its really painful to walk and I can't do it for too long before I have to lay down. I'm blessed with good friends who can help me move heavy shit and stuff like that, but I'm trying to think of ways to make the grow easier for me. For example putting the plants on small platforms with wheels to a) keep em off the cold concrete and b) make them easier to move and manipulate. Suggestions welcome.
