evolution digital fan speed controller problem ..... HELP REQUIRED.......

hi guys,

i have been wonting to get a fan speed controller for ages so i can set it up and sit back and the room will regulate itself, and found the evolution digital fan speed controller, the one i bought is a 2012 addition v002, i have spoken to many people both in shops and online and heard good things about this unit,

so i got myself the unit in november and just got the rest of the system 2 RVK fans and oil filled heat tube just the other day thanks to the jan sales. connected the heater and outlet fan up (not the inlet fan due to the winter temps) went through all the setting in the booklet exactly as it says.

the problems i have is that the fan does not go idal at all and i am unable to switch between the PHA mode and CON mode pluss unable to switch between OPO and OP1 which regulates if the fans are on the heaters off (opo) and the other if the fans are on the heaters on, again unable to get to change this mode on start up.

when ever i try and change anything on start up it go to -- -- then when you resease the buttens it just starts up without changing anything.....

all in all at this moment in time i am very pissed as this was well over £130 and expected this just to work, i have heard off other forums that it maybe a chip problem and to get it changed, so do i call evolution or the hydroshop i bought it from?

has anyone had symiller problems and can anyonbe help out sorting my problems.

or do i send the hole thing back and get money back and get something else,

any advice greatfull............

Have 3 these controllers an have different version all work fine.

If bought from shop I'd just take back also there tech support is good to give them a call.

One note I'd ditch the oil heater an get electric on as take ages to heat up.

Stupid question put do u have your fan speed set to as if it isn't zero it won't go idle. Is spin down to what ever u set on the speed

i have read about the oil filled heaters taking a while but if i used a electric heater it would increase my costs and as it stands its working well, its the dam fans that wont do as there set up for, its the idle that i want and need to work. i have my fans set at 25% and 100% my understanding it runs at 25% unless the temp or humidity goes beyond the setting required and then it kicks in 100% eh? or have i not got that right?

i am going to call evolution tomorrow after work to see if they can help, i also found it is last years modle........

So u want your fans to turn off while heaters are on an it's not doing this the problem?

Have tried setting idle speed to 0% see if it does it!

I to have mine 25% min speed even when heater kicks in

Ps when they in flower u will not want ya fans turning off at anytime as if ya growing something b stinky like cheese your whole street will stink when ya heater is on!

yes thats right i want them off while the heaters on but then going on idle the rest of the time, i dont run a cool tube or vented hood shade so can use the ambient heat of the light while lights on, but i hear what your sayin during flowing for sure...... with lights off i would expect the room to hold its head quite well from previous experiences. so would want to have the fan on idle at say 10/20%........

or am i askin to much of this peace of kit, from what i read i could do all this.

i have just been up to check on things and try booting the setting on power up, NONE of this works at all.......

0P0 = When heater is on fans are off/min.


0P1 = When heater is on fans are on.


Please note in normal use the controller should be set to OP0.


1.Make sure the Evolution Fan speed controller is OFF before you start (no electrical power)
Press and hold “htr” button down
(keep the htr button held down)
Then plug in and turn the power on to power up the Evolution Fan Speed controller.


2.Once powered up, the controller will display 2 - - - - - - you may now release the “htr”
button at this point.


3.The display will flash up the current chip code for example: E1.9 PHA
then shortly afterward the heater mode will flash up briefly such as:
HTR OPO or HTR OP1


To toggle heater modes simply re-power up the unit with the same procedure and it
will switch over to the opposite mode
of either OPO or OP1 depending on the last mode it was in.

reet got that sorted got it onto op1/opo mode but that made no difference to the system i increased the temp so the heater would kick in and the fan turn off but heater kicked in but nothing at all from the fan, i also changed the idle to 0 and that made no difference either, the fan just runs at 100% continuously .......

i have now got it on 13/100 but no change in fan speed

any thoughts on why?

What's your humidity set at?

As this may over ride it.

If not I'd take it back as when at factory default the fans turn off when heater is on.

That's your problem u need it to be set 0 min 100 max your pressing min/max button


Press fan button an set your min speed on that not on the min / max button

Here another problem u could be having.

Phase angle mode is what u want to be in.

Sounds like your in contactor mode where fans are just on all the time!


Sorry am not in front of mine just trying to think what be causing your fans to be on all the time.

If u have the manual is say have read of it as is quite simple to use

humidity is set at 70% but the room is only at 35/40%RH i will head back upstaired manual in hand with laptop if this dosent work its getting sent back cheers for the fast advice........

starting to get the hang of this but still the fan does not change in any way, and now unable to change the the up/down on the fan speed set is stuck at 0 wont let me scroll up, so defo gonna sends it back to evo tomorrow thanks again for your help

Sorry to hear you not got it sorted.

Make sure u put all 4 screws back on mother board as I once forgot put them back in an buttons stopped working for me

thought i would quickly update and let you no i have just received my brand new controller back from ecotechnics, will be setting it up tomorrow so should be all to the good now, thanks again for your input ...........

all set up and working perfectly now thank god but i have one quick question i have a 12" rvk fan as an input and a 8"rvk for my ouput, is there any way of reducing the buzz at low speeds or is that something i have to put up with the humming goes away at around 50% any lower the 12" buzzes like a sub my only thought is to move the fan to an area i cannot hear it as the grow is above my bedroom and can hear the buzz........

Surely your larger fan should be your exhaust and your smaller the intake.

So 8" intake and 12" exhaust.

Otherwise you'll end up with positive pressure and smell leaks regardless of the controller.

Yeah u have fans round the wrong way. Need negative pressure in the room.

Also some bad new on your fans yes they work but there not designed to have a controller on them they should be either on or off.

Your in the UK google acoustic wooden box fan yes they expensive but they are best on the market. They can run at a low speed an no humming an they are not far of silent on full speed. I would recommend them.

An your evolution controller can even handle the 10"/12" 2500CFM on the outtake an a 8" 1500 CFM on the intake
