Biden’s approval numbers are still in the dirt. The divide is more partisan than I have ever seen it.

Airing my opinion, I am disappointed in a few of Biden’s recent acts or failure to act.
Specifically, I am not pleased with his not being more aggressive in shielding Palestinian innocents from being done over by Israel and local Muslim nations.

My other beef is that he did not make the obvious and easy Hail Mary play to stick it to Republican legislators in the House. The Excess Defense Articles legislation gives him signature authority to sell or even donate war matériel to Ukraine. Had he done this months ago, thousands of lives and considerable territory would not have been lost.

These grievances aired, I remain steadfast in my personal support of him and his administration. All I need to do is consider the alternative.

I agree that with you that its Biden's job to convince enough voters to choose him to win the election. I also agree that by normal metrics, he's losing at the moment. But I don't think this campaign is over and I also don't think that Biden's strategy at the moment of avoiding mistakes and "playing to not lose" is the wrong one.

FWIW, I think approval ratings are not great statistics to predict the outcome in November. In normal elections, they might have some value but do they in this one? Can anybody say that this a normal election? There is this too:

Win or lose, this will be a close election and those voters are likely to cast the votes that decide it.

I'd rather my candidate have Biden's problems than Trump's.

Biden lays into Trump over convictions and says he now poses a greater threat than in 2016

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — President Joe Biden laid into his predecessor and likely opponent in November’s election, Donald Trump, for being convicted by a Manhattan jury on 34 felony counts related to hush money payments, saying Monday night that “this campaign has entered uncharted territory.”
Speaking at a fundraiser in Greenwich, Connecticut, Biden said the former president “wants you to believe it’s all rigged. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
Echoing comments he made in reaction to the verdict at the White House last week, Biden said, “It’s reckless and dangerous and downright irresponsible for anyone to say that it’s rigged just because you don’t like the verdict.”

Well most people know that Garland was in committee this morning, yeah that house judiciary one.....and he was a masterclass....

"BREAKING: Attorney General Merrick Garland brilliantly destroys the “extremely dangerous” MAGA lies about the Donald Trump conviction during a House Judiciary Committee.

Republicans were not ready for this…

"Certain members of this Committee and the Oversight Committee are seeking contempt as a means of obtaining — for no legitimate purpose — sensitive law enforcement information that could harm the integrity of future investigations," Garland stated during his opening statements.

“This effort is only the most recent in a long line of attacks on the Justice Department's work,” he added.

The hearing was designed by Republicans to smear Garland and the Justice Department.

MAGA Congressman Matt Gaetz attempted to push a false narrative that President Biden was behind New York states’s prosecution of Trump. Garland would have none of it.

"The case in New York is brought by the Manhattan district attorney independently on his own volition, as [his] own determination of what was, what he believed was a violation of state law," Garland explained to Gaetz.

The attorney general also slammed the "baseless and extremely dangerous falsehoods” that are “being spread about the FBI's law enforcement operations.”

Democratic Congressman Jerry Nadler asked Garland to describe the effect on the Justice Department when Trump and Republicans falsely and absurdly claim that Biden tried to assassinate Trump by authorizing the FBI to use deadly force during their Mar-a-Lago raid.

"This is dangerous. It raises the threats of violence against prosecutors and career agents," said Garland. "The allegation is false, as the FBI has explained, the document that's being discussed is our standard use of force protocol, which is a limitation on the use of force, and which is routinely part of the package for search warrants, and was part of the package for the search of President Biden's home as well."

During the hearing Garland also spoke more broadly about the constant attacks on the Justice Department.

"Attacks on the rule of law tear down those confidences in the basic, fundamental element of our democracy that all people will be treated equal," Garland said.

“And I intend to continue to protect the rule of law, to protect the … career employees of my department to make sure they can continue to go about their job, which is to do the right thing every day and not to be distracted by outside influences, political, or otherwise," he added.

Taken in totality, Garland’s performance at the hearing was a masterclass in professionalism and honesty. The MAGA hacks in Congress never stood a chance.

rather have a Garland than a Bill Barr anyday......

Summary: Less intelligent people tried to outsmart a more intelligent one and were surprised when, after all was said and done, they were left standing there looking foolish and stupid without a clue about what had just happened.

Live Updates: U.S. Hiring Rises Strongly
The pace of hiring was unexpectedly robust in May, showing a gain of 272,000 jobs, but it wasn’t all good news: The unemployment rate ticked up, to 4 percent.

More people are working than ever before. Meanwhile, more people are looking for jobs, the jobs are there for them. This is what a healthy economy looks like.

It’s worth noting that wage growth was even stronger for production and nonsupervisory workers, at 0.5 percent. Lower-income workers had been seeing slower pay increases after the big surge of 2021 and 2022.

Migrant arrests drop at US-Mexico border as Biden asylum ban rolls out

WASHINGTON, June 8 (Reuters) - The number of migrants caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border dropped on Friday, a senior U.S. border official told Reuters, saying it signaled a restrictive new Biden administration policy was deterring some illegal immigration.
U.S. Border Patrol arrested around 3,100 people crossing illegally, down roughly 20% from the days before, the official said, requesting anonymity to discuss preliminary figures.

US consumer prices unchanged in May; rate-cut expectations rise

Summary

  • Consumer price index unchanged in May
  • CPI increases 3.3% on year-on-year basis
  • Core CPI rises 0.2%; up 3.4% on year-on-year basis
The data prompted financial markets to boost the probability that the U.S. central bank would cut rates in September as well as in December, which had been diminished by news last week that job growth accelerated in May.
That optimism was shared by many economists who anticipated that Fed officials would keep two rate cuts for this year on the table later on Wednesday when they were expected to leave the central bank's benchmark overnight interest rate unchanged in the current 5.25%-5.50% range, where it has been since July.

Top Democratic Power Broker Is Charged With Racketeering
New Jersey’s attorney general, Matthew Platkin, said George Norcross had been running a “criminal enterprise” for at least 12 years.

George E. Norcross III, New Jersey’s once-powerful Democratic kingmaker, was charged on Monday with racketeering along with five other defendants.

The 13-count indictment unsealed by New Jersey’s attorney general, Matthew J. Platkin, accused the group of unlawfully obtaining property and property rights on the waterfront in Camden, N.J., fraudulently collecting millions of dollars in government-issued tax credits, and controlling and influencing government officials.

“George Norcross has been running a criminal enterprise in this state for at least the last 12 years,” Mr. Platkin said in a statement. “On full display in this indictment is how a group of unelected, private businessmen used their power and influence to get government to aid their criminal enterprise and further its interests.”

sounds great in theory but i can already tell you after being in the process of that somewhere there will be red tape still stopping them from getting said green card,

With ALL the proper documentation you have to do and personally i have a general distrust of the system, i cannot imagine an undocumented person feeling safe going to the fucking federal buildings needed to do their medical, finger printers, marriage interview etc. and even basic paperwork

Its a catch 22 because if they deny you which they may they now know EVERYTHING about you and have your finger prints to boot.
