exhaust necessary for veg?

my veg tent is 4' x 4' approx., i have a blower in there currently which works as an exhaust for the tent. is this necessary during veg? i ask because i think if i turn it off i will be able to control temps a lil better..any and all input is appreciated!

you might not need exhaust do to need of less light..but you should have air goin over plants during this time to make the stem strong

That's tough to answer, without a little more information. What is going on with the temperature, that you feel the need to control it? Sounds like it must be too low, if you want to remove the exhaust? What kind of light? What kind or air intake? Temperature outside the tent? What hours do you run the lights? How many plants? How big are they? Humidity?

i have 2 400w MH hanging over the plants, not air cooled though. i usually have about 20 plants in there, the reason it MIGHT help with the temps is because I use 1 a/c unit to cool both my veg tent and flower tent.. i was thinking that maybe because the lights are not air cooled, the blower might just be sucking the cold air outta the tent.. i would like temps to be 78-80 but they reach 82-84 currently.. also, i have a fan on 24/7 blowing over all the plants.. i hope this isnt too confusing and helps you picture whats goin on in there

To get the maximum cooling with what you are running right now, you should have the a/c intake coming in at the bottom of the tent, and the exhaust drawing the hot air out of the top of the tent. If the exhaust isn't at the top of the tent, the hot air will sit there and keep the temps high. You need to move that out. Even better yet, would be to put a 'Y' in and make two holes for the exhaust, one directly above each light. And since cold air is heavier than warm air, the a/c intake should be as low as possible, and the cool air will rise as it warms and gets sucked towards the exhaust, cooling the entire tent.

thats basically exactly how it is.. the ac comes in the bottom and the blower hangs from the top centered above the 2 lights..i think i will it leave it just how it is and if anything i'll just a duct booster to the ac tube and increase the flow of the cold air coming in

air cool the lights simple

put the exhaust on a timer

the exhaust is on a timer..only comes on when the lights are on

air cooled reflectors for the veg tent are my next upgrade..right now i just have batwing reflectors in there

air-cooled hoods make a HUGE difference in a small space.

Yeah, I agree with buying vented reflectors. That's alot of heat coming off those two lights, in that small space. It sounds like you have it set up pretty good with what you have now, and it's just barely keep the heat under control. Time to upgrade.

I have 3 400w MH lights...I recently installed The Can filter and 4 inch blower. My temps were very hot before, now I am around 84 and my plants are thriving. I did today install two inline 80cfm fans as well. I will test the temp when I wake up and report.

So in summary, yes, venting is vital...so is air circulation....

I have a fan hangin that shoots across the room and my plants are moving from the draft...

I dont have glass on my lights, I was wondering if I should or not. I like my veg room taking the hot air and sucking it out. Any pros and cons to installing glass on the lights?

I would leave it as it is. If you are getting to 84 with the fan on when the light is in I suspect that you will run into a serious heat issue if you turn it off. Take the plants out for an hour, turn the lamp on, fan off and see what happens. I suspect that you will end up in the low to mid 90's.
