Expected Yield

I will be growing 6 plants in soil under a 400watt enhanced spectrum HPS using 5 gallon buckets growing as tall as my 9 foot celing and reflector being in the way will allow. What kind of yield can I expect growing these 6 plants as tall as the ceiling and reflector will allow?

impossible too tell, depends on alot of factors.. not too mention what plant you are growing... big difference from lowryder too critical mass as a first time grow alot of people say around 1 oz per plant as the general rule if you have your lights and air sorted decently

impossible to answer because too many variables such as how many colas, which strain, RH, nutrients, watering, then there is drying involved so giving a yield as you can see is difficult.

im no expert (yet hehe)

but from what ive read alot of times people find topping right before you flower the best. that way you ensure your canopy too be at the same height when initiating flower..

but as said, thats not from experience as im only a few weeks into my first grow

1oz a plant is a really low estimate though ... lol. like rock bottom ... you would have to do pretty bad under a 400 to get that. A lot of people as a real rule of them say that beginner growers ( because of the techniques used in advanced growing increase yield ) will probably yield around .5 a watt. Veterans have been known to get anywhere from 1gpw to 2gpw in extremem cases. Something you should rememember is that unless your doing a SOG operation , 6 plants is WAY too many to have under a 400 IMO. You wont be able to give each plant the light it need sto grow to their full potential. im running a 600 watt air cooled hood and im only doing a 2x4 space with only 3 plants. Ive seen grows where people grow using 1 600w light per plant. Downsize my friend.

How bout a 600 watt for the six plants?

What about getting caught by the electric companies or by heat (using FLIR, forward looking infared radar)? I won't be venting the heat outside just venting out of my closet into my bedroom and have ceiling fan on.

as long as the hot air evens out you should be fine , flir cant see through houses. just dont exhaust straight outside yeah? lol. electric companies dont give a shit as long as you pay your bill on time. and a 600 watt isnt gonna kill you, maybe 5 1ks llol. good luck man. oh and yeah ... you could do 6 with a 600 ... but still not a good idea if your going for large plants. `1k for 6 would be good : )

ive heard that several places but as stated in a later post im still on my first grow so havent harvested a single plant in my life yet could be that the 1oz pr plant was a ryder estimate though..

you def need more light if you want high results with six plants like WeSmkDro said. Besides that it there a lot of variables that can change your out come, so it is too hard to say

Damn you guys sure if I'm in a one bedroom apartment that 1000 Watts wouldn't get me caught? I just gotta make sure. I grow cuz I have bi-polar it evens out my mood, and I have a ton of trouble sleeping at night. I can't afford to get caught I wouldn't do well in lockup.

well then why dont you just grow fewer plants ... the amount of plants you have doesnt affect yield really , its light. grow less? lol.

Well now I'm thinking about using a 1000 watt bulb. I think that would work much better. Any opinions?

I got 6 oz from a 400w Light (Nextgen ), CO2 6 plants in a 2 by 4 and my first grow!

1000w is very low, 600w is low, and so on and so on. People run 5-10kw in lights, in apartments and homes and have no trouble. you just have to be prepared and ready for any odd confrontations, inlaws, family, jehovas witnesses, etc. Keep the room sealed, cleaned, vented , blocked off and dont tell a soul. pay the bill. 1000w running 12/12 all year(roughly) will be $100 a month (average for west coast). amount of electricity in USA it is quoted to be 920kwh/mnth. So thats 1.27kwh 24hours a day. SO IF YOU have 1000w light running 12/12 -----thats 0.5kwh 24hrs a day (spread out) and you still have another 0.75kwh to use per day to stay under the low AVERAGE OF 920kwh/month. . i hoped that helped its helped me in the past.
I seem to get the idea you want to stick to the legal 12 immature OR 6 mature which is smart. UTILIZE YOUR LIGHTING for highest yields. Also use bigger pots 10/25gallon, veg for a long time, and get some BIG girls. I spoke to a guy at a dispensary who refused to go above 6 plants. So he used 2/600w in vertitubes and put the six around the light in the middle. 1.5-3lbs as a beginner....... If i was in your shoes id use 2 600w/6plants and veg my babes for a slightly longer time and be expecting NO LESS than 3oz per plant per plant at 1lb-2oz per harvest 4 times a year with flourescent veg room. 1000 watts would be a lot hotter than a 400w or 600w though, I'm starting to think I may want more small plants. I'm not sure the heat and electric bill would be worth the yield I'd get from the larger plant plan. Maybe smaller plants?

why are you so set on 6 plants?

Cuz I think that's what will fit in future grow room. Do you have an idea? maybe I need some direction.
