experience with root bound on five gallon dwc.

I have a five gallon dwc plant. It had outgrown the bucket reallly in veg. So i transplanted to a 18 gallon bin. Howver no matter how much prodding and cutting the root ball stays as a five gallon shaped ball.

I have another five gallon dwc a little younger. She is doing the same thing. Starting. I can still move her and I think she will spread out.

I just ran a plant that gave a small yeild. She was crammed in a five gallon dwc. She had the circle root ball that buckets make.

Do you think this contributes to smaller yeild? I dont think so. However I veg for a long time. Like a few months.

How'd you outgrow a 5 gallon bucket 5 Gallons is lots of room for roots.
Wish I could help, I don't have experience with this scenario but I just ordered my 5 gallon buckets, pumps etc... I also plan on vegging until about 2-3 feet depending on strain. I am pretty confident the 5 gallon bucket will do.

Oh, even at the most the mas of roots takes about a gallon compressed of space. But they fill out and form a ball. No worries you will have a ton of room. I have just a few curiousities about making trees and the finer points.

actually id have to disagree i just finished my grow the bucket was completley full of roots one big ball im sure my yield suffered because of it so if you plan on vegging for awhile id look into tubs.. im switching to a tub this time.. i was first thinking 7 gallon but after seeing that it spread both ways im switching to a tub

Man 5 gal is allot of room I have a 5 gal hempy bucket goig right Now with a 12 week veggd mother in flower and she is not even root bound I also have a 5 gal dwc going with a 8 week ww about 5 foot tall in flower now as well her roots are massiv but nowhere near root bound I would think that would be nearly immpossible with dwc as there is really no growing medium but I would love to see some pics off this root mass

i dont know that rootbound is your problem.
If you look up heaths critical mass thread, you'll see he yielded like crazy in a waterfarm.
pretty sure those are only like 3 or 5 gals.

I just checked out that grow as I just ordered some super critical seeds and all I have to say is wow ya the root mass was a solid block lol

Your lower yield had everything to do with your roots not getting enough oxygen and nothing to do with your bucket. Iv had DWC ladies that the root ball actually circles the bucket over qand over weaving themselves like a basket. You just need more oxygen for your root mass....

i have 2 plants in a 6 site 13 gallon tote with 71/2 to 8 gallons of water my roots are twisting up forming a braided rope and are kinda hard . the two plants roots are tangling into one root colas looking a little wilted im in the end half of week 3 veg , week 5 since clone

Out of curiosity, what kind of yeilds are you seeing with that long of a veg? What lights?

5gallons of solid roots is enough mass for a very productive plant. Dwc vs soil root mass in 5 gallon is a huge difference. The entire bucket is root!! No medium taking up volume. That's like having 20 gallons of soil.
