my first run with 280W LEDs

DSC01346.jpgDSC01347.jpg

gave me about 130 gram dried/cured Buds of two medium size plants with 8 weeks of flowering (Veg. under some T5HOs)

second run gave me about the same, with 3 plants and a heat wave where I had ambi temps about 30C so even with LEDs I got some flimsy Bud`s, but still potent as I believe the LEDs grow better quality but maybe also a bit smaller Bud`s compared to HIDs (my old 600W HPS witch I wouldn't have been able to run doing the heat wave even with a cool hood on it)

20 day`s in to my 3th run now and every thing look sweet this time with perfect temperatures (24-26C) and I expect a bit more then 130g from my two +10 weeks old Main lined plants

DSC02545.jpgDSC02546.jpg

tho, I did also add 192W LEDs more to cover all the space probably

DSC02219.jpg

only real down side with LEDs beside the price is the space they cover compared to big HID bulbs, pretty much one directed (also deepen on lenses and angle of the LEDs)
but if you over come that you have a pretty easy grow with next to no heat to fight and pretty stealthy and you can grow some super potent dank

Ooh yea not to forget, my two main Bud`s from my first run

DSC02097.jpg

super compact, and pretty frosty, after drying I believe the weight was 9,5 and 8,5 grams and after curing it was about 9 and 8

p.s.

strain is LSD from Barney`s and is a fast finishing strain and was grown in organic soil

You used Mylar on the side walls and that's reflective "supplemental lighting"

I guess your right (knew I should have pulled it down with the 600W)

maybe you can post your "frost flakes" as you "only" use flat white ?

I think you took him the wrong way, I don't think he was being combative at all just stating what he has seen around. There are a lot of unfinished journals all over the place, not just in the LED camp, but it seems extra difficult to find LED results because so few use them couple that with the stoners not wanting to finish their damn journals ;) and it doesn't look great for LED's from the outsiders perspective

. He is also right in stating a lot of LED users are using a combo of LED/+CFL/+HPS which isn't a bad thing at all, it improves their yields I'm sure. But it is hard to find information on buds strictly grown off LED's to compare with HPS results. Slip posted some, good on him his plants look great and I am sure he will dial everything in a little more and get better yields, which is not to say his yield is bad at all kinda makes me wish I bought an LED as my space and an HPS is becoming a pain.

I was looking for info on LED's a while back to see if I wanted to do LED's or HPS and eventually just bought an HPS because LED's seem to be a little too "new" right now and the tech is way over my head and would take way more time then I am willing to invest reading about a light :) I have enough reading to do about growing to do. I also can't find good LED sources locally, I will not buy a light for hundreds of dollars and pay $100 to get it shipped to me then ship it back when it breaks, I buy expensive electronics locally so they can be quickly replaced and I dont' screw my plants over. But now I'm just rambling.

:) A little baked this big bud wasn't that bad after all :)

I agree, good quality LED lighting is expensive and because it's new, few have adopted the lighting.

LED without supplemental lighting is like saying you want to see HID results without exhaust ventilation. In most grower environments, you need both to make it work properly.

My LED grow has four 24" fluro tubes to light up the bottom. I decided to give the plant the extra light down below ($40 upgrade), most growers would lollipop and skip the additional lighting, but I don't yank green leaves off my plants.

lol know the feeling, I often end up rambling, but hey Im also allways stoned ;)

but your right in a lot of things, my post was not just to proof "him" wrong either, but also to show the OP and others what LEDs can do, if you get some quality LEDs of newer date, if you go cheap here, and Etc get a cheap UFO light on E-bay (made in China) to replace your 600W you end up with one of them unfinished threads

but yea, don't buy em before you done the research and have the $ to spend, I like you had a look at the LEDs as the technology did appeal to me as I only have a small grow for personal use, but also decided to go for the safe route and got a 600W HPS, did good for me doing a year and 4 grows but I did look more in to the LEDs doing that time Bc. I knew I did want em at some point if I was to continue to grow, so once my 600W was ready for a replacement bulb and I had some extra $ I got my first fixture, paid a bit "extra" as I got it from a EU shop as I did`t want to have it shipped over sea, and its quality and of newer technology with 3 years warranty and if some breaks in this case they have "easy plugs" on em, so they just ship a new fan/LED cluster or what ever breaks, so your grow don't suffer to much, well so fare I had em since april and no problems really, and I still have the 600W in the basement as back up

so yea if you do decide to go the LED route at some point do the research, find a "local" shop and one you trust, I had some online convo`s with em and had em to design my panel to replace my HPS for flowering with more Red´s and less Blue`s, in some cases it can pay off to pay the little extra, specially when its a light you mean to run for +5 years and you want results from it, and often you do get what you pay for, my second fixture was just to cover the last ft of grow and is a "cheap" model (half the price) do a ok job, Im happy, but both me and my light meter do see a difference from my first panel

I would love to buy a led light I just cant afford a good one right now so I opt to wait until I can pony up the bucks for a good one. I am very envious of the buds Prosperian grows.

Yeah, the technology has definitely improved since I last looked lolwow, easy plugs sound pretty damn awesome I would much rather fix something myself if they make it nice and simple for me. I'm going to have to do some reading for sure.

People's definition of "Won't grow anything" is way different :) Apparently CFL's don't grow anything, yet I pulled 3 oz's from 2 plants under a couple hundred watts, I mean those aren't stellar numbers by any means and it's not that I'm bragging, but it was enough for me to pull from my first grow to learn a little bit give me some smoke and get me hooked on growing. I am sure I could have done better if I kept using them but plants growing into CFL's daily for 3 weeks was a pain in the buds.

May I ask what brand of LED you have?

it have moved a long way, since the 60ish

600px-Haitz_law.svg.png

and just in the one year I looked it moved a lot, go for panels with some 3W or even 5W LEDs in em and with secondary lenses on em

my fixture is from Fero EU (similar as the Apollo fixture) Epistar LEDs with secondary lenses on em

if your in the US look for Area 51 lights like the one Prospian use, 3 and 5W LEDs

as you might notice some of the new panels have some/alot of White LEDs in em, over the last years its "proofen" that the plant dont just need Red and Blue light to do well, sure its the most important once, but it need other spectrums to stay healthy and do good, even yellow light and some also claim the green play a role for penetration, white LEDs cover that need

1 Advanced Diamond series, and a 45 watt " Glow-Panel.
