Failed seeds. But it was all perfect!

I recently just picked up some seeds, 2 varieties from a reputable shop, or so I thought. I popped 3 of one and 4 of another, That should give me 2 and 3 beans left (counting my free gift)!

I have used my system to raise all sorts of seedlings over the years (decade plus). A heat mat with a digital thermometer, a decent sized LED, planting dome and a seed starting mix. I typically have 90 to 100 percent seed success. Its really easy with a controlled environment.

Anywho, I put these seeds in water for 12 or so hours 4 days after receiving them. Then right into the setup.

And now we watch, water and wait... Typically thats 2 to 4 days, perhaps 6 but thats a stretch for my system.

After a week, I had nothing. So I switched seed starting mix in case there was an issue (it was a new bag) and put down all the left over seeds. (thats 5 of them). These I didn't soak, didn't really think about it and i really never do that anyway.

8 Days after the initial planting, a very sickly seed popped. Hmm..

3 days after the second planting, one more seed popped. This one meant business, it out paced the the other one and looked to me to be a normal healthy seedling.

So now I'm about to be 2 weeks out from the first 7 and one week from the second batch. STILL NO SEEDS A POPPIN.

The two that did pop now have true leaves, itty bitty. The youngest of them looks equal to older one. Luckily, It looks like I will have one of each. Unfortunately, one is an auto and I had no plans to cut the plant for clones, etc. The other is a photo and I can clone, as long as she makes it..

The seeds didn't look amazing, Not saying they have too but who doesn't like good looking seeds. :)

I have messaged the seller with minimum reply and I feel like I should blast them as poor service.

They were feminized.

What say you ROLLITUP?

Ive bought too many crappy seeds to be any help at all. Just found out about good gentics and was given good seeds from someone who knew better than l. Im still happy with first gentics l recieved and hes brought me some new seeds. I have grown for years and knew nothing, still dont. Your seeds sound too familiar to me. But even good genetics can give small seeds. Cant see why someone would sell nonviable seeds but they do.

Reputable shop/seller doesn't mean as much as reputable genetics IMO. Several reputable banks carry gear from "breeders" who have poor reputations, but who also have big names/hype.

Unless the gear in question was produced by the seller, I'm not sure it's right to hold the seed bank 100% responsible. That's like blaming putting Best Buy on blast because the activation code on the new, factory sealed game you bought was already used. Many reputable banks will work with you, but they also often leave it to the breeder to deal with issues related to germination/seed quality.

Great input everyone. Thanks.

The seller has agreed to reship the order but I have to germ there way. Thats fantastic news.

I feel that one of the nice things about todays shopping (in general) is that there is typically always some sort of replace or return policy. Not having this on expensive seeds kind of sets me on guard as feel i vulnerable to loosing my hard earned money.

What's their way? Paper towel method?

There is nothing wrong with how you germinated them. Healthy seeds shouldn't require anything more than a soak and direct to grow medium, other than tough shells that may need to be scuffed or lightly cracked.

Sounds like they sold you bad or old seeds and in typical seedbank fashion they act like germinating a seed is hard.

I haven't had a reply yet regarding what there preferred way is.

Funny thing is that he told me soil starting has the worst germ rate compared to other methods. What else is out there other than the paper towel?

My setup is really perfect if I do say so myself. The seed starting soil is fluffy and the environment is very moist and consistent. I have had issues starting some garden herbs that actually like drier locations,

No soak & wet paper towels in ziploc for me. I know we call the seeds beans but overnight soak is waste of time imo
This was the first time I tried the soak. Def looking at the moist soil, it was pointless.
