Fan sound questions (tried a couple things still having problems)

Hey all so im building a cab for when i get my medical card(hopefully in the next week or so :D)

The cab is 18 X 28 X 54H.

Im using a bathroom ventilation exhaust fan (pic attached) and its doing fine cooling the cab with all the lights running but its a bit loud.

I tried making a diy exhaust duct that is insulated.
I also set the fan on styrofoam to reduce vibrations
But its still loud i think just from running/the intake of the fan. :/ (whoosing of air mainly i think)

Dont know what to do, any ideas?

anything you try to do duct muffler which i think would kill your air flow with that small fan. never used one of those so not sure how loud it is

Not only are those fans loud, they really don't move much air. I would suggest installing an inline fan in the duct run. Get a fan speed control ($20), or a router speed control from Harbor Freight ($13). By reducing the speed by around 20%, the noise is reduced by around 80%.

Combo of blade noise and air whooshing. And yah i tried to insulate it and put stuff in front of the intake in order to reduce noise but it barley did anything.

Yah probably do need an inline fan :/
Any suggestions of one that will be fairly quiet ??

I was just worried because my grow space isnt huge and didnt know if i needed a huge fan taking up space and moving more air than needed.

Hmmmm was planing to use one of these as my air intake ..... and a propper 5" with carbon filter for my exhast!.... i even have all this stuff ready to go .... do you know if a lighting dimmer built into the mains wire would act as a speed regulator (or should i add a 4" inline fan to my ever growing list of things i need after it thought i had it all covered :-( )

we never seem to have it all covered soon as u add one thing or chnge something find u have to change or get other things lol
but thats also makes it fun
instead of a light dimmer get a ceiling fan speed controller at home improvement store

agree get it right first time and do the job once, theres nothing worse than having to change and move things when youve got plants inside the room! i learnt the hard way.

Google computer fan mufflers. It will give you idea's on how to build one using cheap cost materials. Another thing is metal fan blades make less noise then plastic, so if you got plastic fan blades you could always look into a different fan. That bathroom fan is running at high RPM'S and prob has a high CFM. Look into computer fans, there small and can push good amount of air while running with less noise then that bathroom fan.

A 125CFM fan will push good amounts of air in a 5x5x5 box, since you have a smaller cab it will be more then enough. That's what I'm running and it's silent as hell,

bathroom fans are always loud and move very little air.

probably made to be that loud (hey dont forget to turn me off sound or something lol)

my bathroom fan makes kinda more noise than my 320 cfm inline fan..

and if that bathroom fan moves 80cfm then im a duck in pants.

...
hmm, girlfriend freaking out about money?

try pointing out the amazingly huge sums of money you are saving with this endevour.

just by quitting buying , i saved 400 bux every month.

and if i had bought like i needed, i wouldave spent 1400 bux every month.

and if i sold what i smoke every month now, i would make about 1500 bux :)

its mostly the startup costs that are big, after that its just an occasional bite to the wallet.

and if you keep in mind how much you spent before and how much money you will have (once you have a few harvests (or even one(though most take a few harvests to dial it in)and no longer buy plant material at the price of gold (lol sirka)=)

those tiny bites are gonna feel just that.

heck, i went from being a pauper, to being able to afford 3 month trips to the tropics. its That much cheaper growing your own ;)

right gonna get my s**t together and do what i can before my house move.... i must say i have become more inspired and much better informed in the short while i have been using this site... i'm well impressed.

its all about not funding dealers for me.... too long spending good money on nasty wet rubbish, hell i have found this year i enjoy the growing as much as getting fucking stoned (well nearly as much) and i've only had a homemade green house to cut my teeth

next i will photograph my kit before i start my build-log ...and the much awaited first indoor (4 strain) grow journal

Thanks for tips, actually had two computer fans and installed them(taking out the loud bathroom fan). This made it much much quieter. Also got all my light leaks taken care of.
BUT with the pc fans running and the doors shut and locked the temp gets up to 102 :/

Damnit. With the doors open its a cool 80. Might go pick up another cheap small fan to exhaust more air tomorrow.
Also im freezing water bottles and putting them in the grow space to try to help but its not helping enough apparently.

Damn you CFLs! And damn you LEDs for being to freaking expensive.
