Fan speed controller and power outages???

Hey guys just wondering I have recently bought a inline fan(HF Active AIR) and fan speed controller from the hardware store my question is since my fan runs at 30 percent power mot of the time if the power goes out as it does time to time goes back on and off repeatedly the fan would start at 30 percent power I've heard this can damage a fan, just as a light type dimmer would damage it in the same way. All I have to go by is experience without any technical knowledge of electronics... but I live in an area with a lot of lightening and short power outages and use an inline with a fan speed controller. Over the years, my HydroFarm inline fan has never showed any harm resulting from the numerous brownouts or short outages.

you could get one of those apc backup batteries people use for computers if the power goes out.. the fan probably doesn't pull too many amps at 30% power so the backup would be able to sustain it for a while until power comes back on
