Tbh it's unusual for anyone to sell grass/bud buy it's name, the name has become irrelevant because of people cutting corners and having limited experience, even when the name gets a mention I'm oblivious to it because of the above.
That’s the long way of saying I've not got a clue lol?
Lol yeah fair doos mate
Maybe hindu kush or Afghan kush

It's a long, long shot but you never know?

When I younger seeded Afghan was the standard in grass, a friend/associate started dealing a little bit hash/grass, one time he arrived with this bit of amazing bud, real sensi lol.
Even now I occasionally get bits of bud that know is related to it with the taste.
So in uk late 80s what strain could it have been?
I know it could have been one of 100s but I'm looking for the usual suspects so to speak.
From memory it was more golden/light brown than green, it had a medium sweet spicy flavour really pungent.
I'd love to find it, I've never had any thats been similar in flavour only hints of it in various random bits?

I know it's a long shot but I don't expect there were to many strains available in the UK at the time?
I think you are remembering Columbian or Jamaican Gold bud.

Im curious, even though they have the moniker 'Pre 98 Bubba' and '92 OG' - does anyone actually remember smoking OG and Bubba in the 90s or getting it from a dealer back then? I sure as hell dont! That didn't come around (LA / Inglewood) area till early/mid 2000s, and cuts starting becoming available around 2006. I remember driving way out the to valley at some dispensary in Reseda where Swerve would drop cuts that I heard about on the forums. They hadn't been released prior

Speaking that, what ever happened to Dabney Blue, is it still around?

As for the 90s, that was when it all began for me in the summer of 92. I remember rolling around all day just trying to score 2-finger quarter sacks and dime bags lol. I miss that lingo. Back then, like others said - it was all about Northern Lights, Skunk 1, Mexican Red Hair (Skunk) with White Widow, AK 47, Blueberry, Bubblegum towards the end of the decade.

Dabney Blue was bomb....I got that cut from the Swerve/APE days of clone vending.... Wish I still had it today.... I swear Humboldt Seed Companies Blue Berry Muffin reminds me of the Dabney..... I think those 90's references are str8 marketing bullshit also

The only time I recall smoking herb with an established name was when some woman my friend knew came back from Europe, and she had smuggled some AK47 back from Amsterdam in her vagina. Besides that, it was basically all "kind bud" I got in the NE (or when desperate, schwag), but none of it had a name. Honestly I rarely if ever heard established names mentioned by dealers until the 2000s.

Only 90s dank I got my hands on were juicy fruit, spice, white rhino and random no name 50 an eighth shit. Lots of decent blueberry and homegrown mids. Started growing early 00s and had lots of favorites. Afghan x skunk, star 47, kevorkian, northern lights, bubbleberry, ect. Couldn't get shit here in MI so had to grow my own

Man - I never got it, but always wanted it. Super hard to get even back then. I'll have to check out HSC Blue Berry Muffin.
I don't think I remember APE, whats it stand for? Sounds like you might have been around there at that period, do you remember what that dispensary was on Reseda and Vanowen? I can't for the life of me remember the name -but he used to originally drop all those old classics there and a couple other spots in the Valley.

The funny thing about nostalgia is remembering how good it was. I bet half of the shit that we thought was great in the 90's cant stand on the same stage as some of the hybrids that have been bred for the last several years.

I had some 90's blueberry back in the day. My old homies still talk about how good it was. Long story short the old hippie i know still has a cut and how i remember it and how it is compared to the elites of today is totally different. Its garbage.. it wasnt back then but it is now. Something are better as a memory.

i know what you mean, things where always better back in the day but top of the menu's in amsterdam back in the 90s where White widow , jack Herer, Northern lights. you can still get these strains, some of them have stood the test of time. i also have a few grams of blueberry in front of me lol

where do you think all the dank comes from today ? it's only the progeny of those coveted strains. you should thank the breeders of the past for their service, many new phenos are hardly bred into f4s or further. and those that do should be praised for their time and diligence

stuff today lacks tegrity. you just cross ABCxCDE and call it unicorn farts and it sells for dumb amounts of $$$
"todays stuff" doesn't specify exactly. I'm sure it could be true about most of the crap that is going around.

Sure line bred and homogenous genetics are a true art, but more important is selecting.

Many didn't have the space, time, or money to do actual selections like can be done today and it shows.

Everyone of my plants i run have been selected by 100 + to god knows how many seed stock, where there was only keeper. And that speaks for itself.

People think a strain or a cross is just that and its not at all. If you buy a pack or two of seeds and select a keeper, chances are its shit. Run 500 and select a keeper and you might find something special, or not. But the true art of selecting and breeding only the best of the best. Sure they arent stable or uniform. I dont run seeds, i run proven clones that alwasy impress, and blows the doors off any ak47, white widow, or any of the things we thought were good back then.

I think ul find most of those 90s strains if preserved with the correct parents if in seed form or preserved well nice and healthy and virus free if in clone only format id say they all still be pretty damn potent the problem many people are forgetting is we lost alot of the original parental lineups of these strains due to many reasons the law being one of them or for whatever reason people shouldn't miss that point cos selection is almost everything imo

you literally proved my point. but legalization didn't exist back then. and you can thank the selection over the periods of decades to get your coveted "proven" clones. those are not new strains but the grandchildren of previously selected strains crossed with God knows how many landraces.

unless your breeding new fire gtfo. your just profiteering on the shoulders of giants.
