Fed seedling woth 4.0 phd water

I don’t give a shit about your question, I’m not here to answer your stupid questions. Although it was addressed in there — of course you should flush it, and not do dumb things like feed @4.0 anyway. This isn’t your personal plant oracle, if you don’t like General conversation developing from dumb questions then maybe keep them to yourself.

I take back what I said, pitch it all in the trash.
You dont give a shit about my question AND you arent here to answer my Stupid questions. I must ask what, pray tell are you doing here?

Your question is basic and literally answered in the first post. I’m purely posting to add an opinion about coco coir and correct some misinformation. You replied bitching that it was a simple question and only answered by one post. Yeah, ok. I’m here to learn and add info, not answer your question and only your question.

Dude... I see you're new here. Chill out. Im sure you had dumb questions at some point in your growing career. Newbies are what you were at some point as well, they just prob didn't have keyboard warriors at the time. We like to make people feel welcome and help as much as possible no matter how simplistic the question may seem to you or any other experienced growers. That's how you learn shit. .. ask questions.
Ok then maybe he shouldn’t reply to me and bitch about not answering his “simple question” when I spent 15 minutes on a post defending his choice of grow medium and adding how I’ve found success.

Yessir, agree completely.

Sometimes you’d never believe this was a chill weed forum, haha.

Man.. this has been one of the best Cannabis forums I've ever belonged to. Great information, and I've built some awesome relationships with other members who have led me the right direction when I started a Commercial Op a couple of years ago. But, you run across the occasional newbies that think this is like Facebook where you can just blast someone for a simple question. It's very immature. For the most part, I love RIU for the people who share great info that you can sort through and decide if you want to use that information.

WOW!
This really heated up.
I didn't mean to spark a fire.
Sorry to OP for being such a dick, I was half way through the second bottle of wine for the night.
Not an excuse I guess, but at least an explanation. I need to remember to temper myself in those situations.

I don't want to reignite a debate on the various merits and pitfalls of coco, but based on what I see on RIU a lot of people, even ones getting ok results with coco, don't fundamentally understand how coco works. The number of people who use 100% RO water with added calmag is a good example I think. This does work of course, but with a more advanced understanding of how coco buffers and uptakes nutrients and minerals you begin to see that using all RO water with a coco system is usually not the best choice.

Learning to truly master any growing medium is difficult, and there is a big difference between getting good results and getting the best results. Coco can be very simple, especially to someone who already has a good foundation of how to grow a high quality and high yielding plants, but you might as well say that anything is easy when you know how to do it.

A note to the OP about flushing:
Calmag is very important for coco to work properly, it basically regulates the uptake and release of nutrients to the plant. Even when flushing to restore PH a mild nutrient solution including the normal amount of calmag should be used. Flushing w/o the calmag will wash a lot of it out of the medium, this can shock the root system and also effect the roots ability to uptake other nutrients. Alternatively you can look into just using your tap water with coco usually with good results. As long as your tap water has an EC around .4 it will be fine. Even chlorine and fluoride won't mess with coco much. Coconut trees are capable of drinking saltwater if they need to, so coco does not care about a little bit of chlorine or fluoride in most cases.

Yah, i didnt help tone things down. Thanks for the help......Moving on....

i was using my tap but gathered it was too hard a d i switched to distilled and dehumidifier water. I e been adding calmag to feedings so Ill continue to do so.

From the city water authority:
- average water hardness was 22.2 grains per gallon (380 mg/L or ppm)
- Calcium Hardness= 212 mg/L
- Magnesium Hardness= 168 mg/L
- ph averages around 7.6

Think i should i go back to tap?

Your water situation is similar to mine, straight from the tap my water is an EC of almost .8 or PPM of about 390.
I use a mixture of my tap water and RO water at a ratio of 3 parts RO water to 2 parts tap water.
This gives we water that is right on my target EC of .40. I am using Canna coco which has a lot of calcium in it already, and is intended to be used with tap water.

It took me a little while to get this water solution dialed in, but now it is working very well. I don't recall what nutrients you said you were using, but if it's a line with part A & B for coco then it probably also has the calcium in it already, and you could do something similar to what I am doing, mixing tap with RO, and then be able to eliminate the calmag. If you are using water with an EC of around .4 in coco then you don't need to add calmag, in fact doing so can actually cause problems. The reason coco nutrients usually come in a two part solution or require the addition of a calmag supplement is that the amount of calcium required for coco will not properly stay in solution in a one part nutrient, it will separate and become unavailable to the plant.

Good luck!

im using flora + calimagic. So you aim for .4 ec and then add your nutes. Is that a good target in general or is that specific to your grow/water conditions

im assuming i can use dehumidifier water instead of ro? if i use tap + dehu can i remove calmag? Or what are the signs and symptoms of an excess of calmag?

cheers

I have always used a 2 part coco nutrient with base water at .4 EC, so I am not really sure what the best approach is for your setup. You probably still need to add calmag even if your water had an EC of around .4 since I don’t think the GH flora has line has any calcium in it.

This is one of the reasons I think it’s better to use a two part coco nutrient with tap water adjusted to .4 EC. I had to tinker with my water a bit to find the best ratio but now it does really well for me.

I wouldn’t recommend switching to a two part coco nutrient part way through a cycle, but maybe consider it for your next cycle if you plan on sticking with coco. The brands that I have experience with are Canna and FloraMax, both are good, but I prefer Canna. Both cost a good deal more than GH or AN type products, but they are also good companies run by real people not just subsidiaries of agro mega corporations like Monsanto.
