So pot is a schedule I drug; no known medical use per the feds, correct.
However there is for the most part a hands off policy in the medical marijuana states. Now as far as I know there is no federal tax on pot so revenue is not the reason for the hands off policy. I don't imagine it is to garner votes as the dems inc.Obama are on the way out.
Now if the feds realize there are in fact benefits to medical marijuana why don't they change it to say schedule 2,3 or 4. A prescription is needed for scheduled drugs but in med states do patients actually have a written prescription or just an I.D.card ?
If the reason that pot is not reclassified as a schedule 2,3 or 4 is that prescription is required fine. Than in that case just remove it from the schedule completely.
I suppose my question is why hands off policy?
Obviously the feds see benefits of med marijuana. Wonder if there is pressure from Big Pharma. They do have strong lobby and donate millions to political campaigns. If it was taxed on a federal level and was affordable the cartels would be hurting and drug related crime would go down. No more mules bringing pot over the border if you could buy it legally for less than the street price !!
I recently spoke with a med marijuana shop owner from Co. He says there is something like a 25% tax and the locals would rather buy off the street or grow their own as it's cheaper. Of course the tourists will pay the higher dollar at the dispensary. After all it's vacation.
So tax it locally and federally but at a reasonable percentage.
Now if for example I could get an ounce for $300 in the dispensary of a known quality or an ounce off the street for same price I'll go the dispensary route and the street dealers are out of business. Win Win situation. Goodbye cartels !! At least in regards to pot.
If I'm saving $50 an ounce on the street I'll continue to support the cartels. I don't want to, so come on feds make a smart decision.
Lastly, if studies show that smoking rose petals gets you high will ownership of rose bushes become illegal?
Just saying.
