feminized seeds

A simple question:

I am seeking opinions on whether feminized seeds are worth the added cost.

That all depends on your setup and patience. If you have the room to grow a dozen plants and you don't mind spending money on growing them then it probably isn't worth it to spend five times the cash for seeds. If you only have a tiny box and want to get the most out of your space then it is probably worth it!

I agree with mogie...I never have used fem seeds, but I'm about to have my first experience [and I'm looking forward to it!]...

Me being a virgin grower, my first order was femanized seeds just because I didn't want to manage a large grow room and have to worry about sexing 5 or more plants to get my sexy ladies.

and part of the decision should be legality. if you're not growing legally then it's worth spending money to have less plants in your grow. spend the money now to reduce legal fees and fines later...on the awful odds that we might all get busted sooner or later.

I think its very worth it. If your guerilla gardening, and say you want 10 plants in the end, istead of ordering 20 seeds and hoping for a 50/50 male to female ratio, you just order 10 feminized. it will cost more on seeds, but in the end you will end up taking care of half the amount of plants. This means spending less on fertilizers and such, spending less time taking care of them, and less of a chance of sombody stumbling upon them. for the extra $50 or so, its definetly worth it.

fems are great but some strains breed hermies. due to the nature of how they breed feminized seeds sometimes you will get bad genitics. nirvana tests there fems and they will soon be back in stock not all seedbanks test the fem seeds.

often often does this happen? more than 1%?

I used fem seeds for my first grow, I paid 110 for ten white widow but I will never buy fem seeds again now, it seems strange to me now that they are more expensive, with fem seeds the seedbank retains control and you have to keep going back to buy them, if you get a a mix, grow them out keep one male and they you have all the seeds you will need. if you can do that you have no need to use the seedbnak again and they have lost future business so you would expect mixed to be more expensive.

a couple of questions:

1) did you have good luck with that strain?

2) how did you grow it?

3) Did you clone the resulting plants? My intention would be to not keep any males (from a mix...unless breeding of course) and simply clone the best females (from my fem seeds) and keep going. That is why I am leaning towards feminized seeds.....I can pick the best and then clone it. I have limited space and do not want to maintain any more plants than neccessary thru the vegetative growth.

I have tried to clone buy my attempt didnt work out to well, I am going to maybe have another go in a few days or so.

about the cloning, I had someone show me a fat bud, 5 inches long with maybe 20 hairs on the entire bud (and I am being generouse). He said that it was his nieghbors that had been cloned so many times that it was just shit by now. Has anyone heard that before? Cuz if its true that every cloned generation gets less and less stoney I don't think I would choose the cloning.
Maybe I will start a thread about this issue.

nongreenthumb- how did the fem seeds grow? any differnt then normal? any males of hermies out of the 10?

i started with just 2 one turned out to be a male which i was a bit pissed at but there ya go, got 4 more going now which 3 have shown female, one is left to show, 4 more left to grow

Anyone have any experience with Female Seeds brand strains? For my first grow, I want to grow 5-7 plants most, so I will be going feminized to make the best use of space. However, I like a virtety to see what strain I like best. I saw online Female Seeds brand has an indoor sampler pack of LABELLED feminized seeds. They offer a 15-pack at Online Growshow Alien with:
3 x Northern Light

3 x Nev Haze

3 x Grapefruit

3 x Cinnemon

3 x Skunk Special

So a few questions- first off, they are out of stock. Anyone know if Nirvana or others you'd suggest can do this? Labelled feminized sampler pack for me is a key, so I can follow what I grow and decide what I like best. Also, anyone have an experience with either Online Growshop Alien (to the USA) and/or with these strains of Female Brand seeds? They seems a little inexpensive for feminized- is this a lower quality genitics brand, or just a good bargin? Maybe I'll start another thread more specific to this question if this doesn't generate opinions. I don't mean to hijack the thread.

you can try this site out its a little on the expensive side, but they are offering freebies too. Plus the seeds you get in the pack look awesome, i will prob get this at some point and clone everything so i can get a mega grow up and running
