Feminized vs Regular

Hey guys, just wondering what the downside is to a fem seed? It makes more sense financially for me to buy them because I buy 5...got 5 girls. Gotta be a downside thiugh right? My knowledge lies in soil not genetics haha thanks in advanced!
 
No downside that I have encountered from Feminized seeds, clones no problem and I have done dozens and dozens of femz and 1 only hermie and that was a notorious Taho OG Kush from Cali Connections (freebie as I would not buy Cali Connection seeds).
 
My first grow was this year, but I used clones. No problems with the plants, no hermies in the bunch. Next year, it's from feminized seeds. I did Kosher Kush and NYC Diesel this year (NYC was a freebie that yielded a lot). The end result was a lot of rookie mistakes but like Jerry Rice in 1985, I finally had the coming out party, and that's the Kosher. Oh my dog. Good strain but needs more space than I could provide, safely. I got about 1.5 pounds. Curing starts tomorrow. I grew in a greenhouse, outside. I enjoyed the ride. Looking forward to a much better crop, next year.
 
Out of 20 different strains Ive tried, the Fem Versions never were as good, nor produced as much as much as the regulars.

Barneys Farm G13 x Haze, LSD, Tangerine Dream, Sweettooth were complete failures vs the Regulars. Ive been running the Regular version of Barneys G13 x Haze, and Sweettooth for 6 years. I tried 15 each of the Fems, and 000 were in the same universe as the original.

Hey, whatever works for you. I'm an individual grower, growing for personal use, only. I don't have time or money for experimentation. I need first time, every time. I know the method I used for the 2017 grow worked well and I'm not about to fuck around with a productive status quo. So it's clones or feminized seeds for me. I also cannot and will not deal with BALLS!!!

You tried 20 different feminized strains before you decided they suck,think I would of gave up after the first ten or so.

Yep. Since 2009, I, and my cohorts, have tried no less than 20 Fem varieties. And always run at least 5 per strain, to give them a fair chance.

The Regular Barneys G13 x Haze will produce 24oz of weed from 1 plant, in a 20 gallon container/Promix BX, and a 1000w Hortilux HPS.

I got 12oz of Half Strength vs our regular cut with the same set up.

Ive also been growing since 1972.
 
Commercial "feminized" seeds are identical to the half of regular seeds that produce females. There is no difference and no test could distinguish between them.

I wouldn't rate Barney's Farm as a highly regarded breeder/seed-company as I see lots of bad reports. I would be suspect of any company that offers regular and female versions of what is supposed to be the same strain. The parents are necessarily different and nobody in the Cannabis breeding business is known for having true breeding / stabilized lines because the economics aren't there.

If anything, feminized seeds are potentially better than regulars because the breeders can directly observe the female flower traits carried by both parents, greatly increasing the power of their selection.

I had some with 80% females. Darn Cindy bx 8 for 8 males. Maybe men's seeds...
 
Well I ended up buying 6 fem "double bubba" from the bank here in Denver! Super stoked to grow em I'll report back results lol never grown a high CBD strain before. Thanks for all the info guys!

At the end of the day were all looking for desirable traits. If you grow regs you're obviously gunna need to crack a few more. Regs or feminized really doesn't matter becouse at the end of the grow you're going to end up only keeping one or two.. if for some reason you want to gamble and always grow seeds then for sure feminized. If you're hunting for something to keep(which is what everyone should be doing) it doesn' really matter that much..

I agree, but there are many who still grow from seed one or two times a year and don't keep clones or mothers.. In that case feminized seeds speed up the process. It's a lot easier for beginners.
 
That's also the reason I'm not down with autos. What a fucking scam those are. Unless you have a very specific situation, like no space to veg and flower or trying to get an early harvest or whatever. Other then that. Straight scam.
