Fertilize or Not

G'Day to you all:) I've been reading and reading and just getting more confused.Since surviving colon cancer surgery I rejected the idea of chemo and radiation and started researching Cannabis Oil. Sourced product and made RSO. It seemed to do a number on any cancer that was in me.:) The latest Scans and blood work , after a year of NO TESTS and consuming the oil indicate NO Cancer. My surgeon says my blood counts are perfect and ,quote-"Gerry your colon is spotless".

Now I have taken another step and decided to grow my own to make oil for my wife's Fibro and a maintenance dose for myself. I'm 69 yrs old but I have NEVER grown pot before. All seems to be going well. The plants are thriving and it appears they may be ready to start budding. My question relates to FERTILIZER. My garden has NEVER had any ferts and we sucessfully grew vegatables in it year after year. There has been NO FERTILIZER aplied to these medicinal plants. Do I need to appy fertilizer? Some say yes-some say no. If needed ,what should I get? How often would i apply. I have added a few pics to this post that I took today. Thank you . Cheers:)

First off, congratulations on being cancer free.

I am a huge believer in Cannabis oil and it's healing properties. Your plants look magnificent so I'd say no fertz/nutes are necessary. Best thing is to keep a watchful eye on those ladies and only add if they show deficiency. You've probably got a great soil mix if you've been growing veggies.

What strain are you growing?

Congrats on beating cancer buddy! Also, keep doing whatever it is your doing because those plants look great! I wouldn't add anything unless you see yellowing, but I think you'll be fine, at least for now.

Thanks for the replies but it is TRUE.-I have NEVER grown before and I was astounded when they started climbing higher and spreading. So you all agree they look great and I should just leave them alone. How about the big fan leaves. Some say leave them others say pinch em off? Cheers eh:)

they look great i would consider looking into a PK booster to apply in a week or so at a 50% recomended dosage as plants that big will suck up all the phosforus and potash in the soil once they start budding.

i guess it also depends on how rich the soil is already, if you grew garden beans they actually put Nitrogen back into the soil, that would explain why they are so lush and green as the beans have entiched your soil with nitrogen which is what they need for vegatative stages to put on leafy growth.

maaybe take some soil samples and have them tested for nutrient levels at a local farm and garden store, if they are nice and rich in N-P-K then i would say no need for fertilizer at this time. You should still look into a P-K booster for late stages of flower so that if the need to suppliment does arise you will already have a game plan.

congrats on the cancer, my mom is 2 1/2 years cancer free. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment and still is in recovery, gor a nasty pain killer addiction in the process, its nice to see you were able to go a safer and less harsh route.

First time grower my ass!! Them girls is looking lovely!! Nah no fertilizer, just keep an eye for bugs.
first time canabis grower..fotunatly for him he probabally has experience with other crops and that knowledge has taken him where he needs to be. a plant is a plant. yes they are all different in ways but they are also verry much the same in ways. proplr have this strange mis conception that canabis is some alien plant that is so much different then every other plant. like i said it does have differences just like people are different, no one is exactly the same but we all have similar needs.

as far as pinching off leaves i like to stay away from it, especially outdoors where you have that nice intense penetrating sunlight. its a big controversial topic and you will never find a agreement on an answer...my suggestion to you is to make up your own mind after some research, or even try a side by side so you can make an experienced judgement on the next round.

@oilmaker68-- The strains that are growing: Cheese, Blueberry and Pineapple? So I am told:) The guy that gave me these says that one is a good Indica (Blueberry) and the others are a blend of Indica and Sativa? I can see a difference in the leaf structure of the Blueberry, compared to the others. Any info you all can add would be appreciated. Cheers:)

Yeah. Indica strains are better for fighting cancer according to rick Simpson And sativa are better for fits, epilepsy and the like. The highs are different also. Indica gives couch lock, sativa gives the giggles. Sativa have long thin leaves. Indica fat. Pineapple cheese ??? Not had any of that so I'm sure of its qualities. Generally the more THC the better. I only grow strains that are quoted as being 24%+

Man I wish that was true. I have been growing veggies, shrubs, aquatic plants, flowers and trees since I was 2. I started growing weed and everything changed. So damn hard to grow dank buds. I also get a LOT more sick cannabis plants than anything else. I spend 10 times more energy on my weed crop than my corn field and vegitable garden combined, and get better results from my veggies.. I started like 40 plants this season and I'm down to 3 (most where eatin by horses lol). Some people seem to be born for growin weed though, good from the start. Like the OP!

@perdidobandito I read that somewhere also. Being as I am going to be making my meds from it I would rather not use the fertz and sacrifice a bigger yield. And again-I think I still have SOOoooMUCH to learn for the next stages of a grow-the harvest, drying and curing. If all that works out I would entertain the thought of using fertz for a bigger yield on one plant only and then compare it to one of the same strain and growing conditions. Cheers:)

No, you don't need fertilizer. Your yields should be perfectly fine, you won't lose out on anything. You could throw in some mild worm castings or other organic mixes on top of the soil that is there, but it looks good as it is.

A first time grower fertlizeing a healthy plant is only looking for trouble , Most people mess up plants by loveing them to death with fertlizer and BS , Over feeding can literaly invite bug problems as most bugs like the fresh tender foliage it produces

But once you start flowering heavly you may likely see deficenys , Never hurts to be prepared

i think you might as well add a bit of fertilizer. I use organic stuff for soil (biobizz) as I can usually find it cheap.
It looks fine right now, but you may be limiting your yield, especially later on in flowering.
