I'm have some seedlings growing in my closet. They are all doing well. There are seven of them. I plan on taking them outside when they are big enough.I'm using a 40 watt light bulb to grow them. Is this ok for seedlings? I don't have anything other lights to uses. Also when should I be taking them outside. They are like five days old. Should I take them outside now?

what spectrum is the cfl? and how many luments. Seedings nd cuttlings dont need alot of light so that sounds find. but when u switch from inside to outside u expose ur plant to different light intensities and this could stress and turn male. also ur plant will grow faster if u keep it inside because u can keep the lights on for 18 or 24 hrs

I assume your using an incadecent light bulb which is the typical egg shaped ones used in lamps. They suck because they don't have the right spectrum for growing and because they get really hot. You should look into getting some CFLs (the spiral lower energy ones). You should have a hardware store that carries them, I like the "daylight" ones for vegging. Place these within a few inches of the plants for best results and also get a fan on them to help keep the stems stocky and strong. If you can, gradually expose them to the outdoors before putting them outside permanently to "harden" them off.
