i am using culligan water in the big jugs for a cooler. like i said i am using whatever came with it.. stealthph.. yes im using rockwool
aha... the water softener might be your culprit. Can you get water before it is fed through the softener?
Hmmmmm i dont think we can buy h202 in the uk. I looked for it before and couldnt find it. Is its proper name hydrogen peroxide. ??? I will try the chemist tomorrow and see if i can find it there.
Yes, H2O2 is hydrogen peroxide. However, the stuff you get at the chemist is a bit impractical to use as it is usually only 3% H2O2 (sometimes 6%), the rest is water. You need 50% grade, sometimes labelled "horticultural grade". You can also use the 35% "food grade" type, normally used for sterilising foodservice equipment.
For nutrient reservoir sterilisation and oxygenation, use 50% H2O2 @ 1ml/litre of tank volume every 3-4 days. If using 35%, use 1.5ml/litre.
Now, here's where the impracticality of 3% H2O2 comes in- if you want to apply the equivalent of 50% H2O2 @ 1ml/litre, you need to use about 17ml/L of the 3% stuff. My tanks are 125L each. Takes 125ml of 50% for a fresh tank. The equivalent would be 2125ml (2.125L) of 3% in a 125L tank. The bottles of 3% you get at a chemist are about 250ml, close to 10 bottles for each of my four 125L tanks, 8.5L of 3% for all four tanks. I doubt my local chemist even
has 34 bottles of 3% on hand.
You will find 50% grade H2O2 at hydro shops, even in the UK.
