Fimming and Topping 101

I'm no expert, but I have never heard of this. I don't know why it would matter. Also I don't really see how a 3' plant can yeild what an 8' plant can.
I think quality comes mostly from enviroment and care shown the plants... not how tall you grow them.
You may be better served asking the outdoor guys (in the outdoor grow section) as they grow plants taller than 4' all the time.

not sure! stem may not be long enough to plant!!!!!all depends on the size of it i guess

how early can i top my plants they are 1 month old and the 4th leaf section is sprouted and i can see the growwthTopping a Plant
1. Locate the very top of your plant and cut through the main stem just below the newest growth. This should be done after the 3rd or 4th leaf set but can be done at any time after the 3rd leaf set.
2. Shows Plant Top cut off and where the 2 new Branches that will form a "Y" in the main stem will grow from.
3. Shows the newly topped plant after 2 days of growth, notice the Y in the Stem Forming.
FIMMING A PLANT!
Fimming is actually no different that topping, what fimming does is virtually the exact same thing only your leaving part of the new growth. This only takes of part of the new growth and actually topping the very very new growth which is very hard to see.
What this ends up doing is making it seem as if your getting 4 new tops right next to eachother when its actually only 2 at the very top (like topping) but since it was cut so closely to the next newest set of fanleaves 2 branches which would have formed there anyways seems to make it look like there is 4 new tops.
This is how you go about doing this.
1. Locate the very top of the new growth
2. With a clean sterilized scissors, Fold the fan leafs over and cut approximately 80% of the new growth off the plant.
3. View from the top showing the Cut
4. View of the Cut section after 2 days growth, showing the 4 new growth shoots (branches)
Thats IT!!!! you should be well on your way to Topping and Fimming of your plants.

Pruning is done to remove unwanted leaves, aka usually dead/diseased leaves. Personally there are only two situations I will prune. One, when the lower leaves yellow out and can easily be pulled off the main stem. Two, if I have a massive fan leaf that is blocking light to lower bud sites. Avoid pruning healthy green leaves, it adds unnecessary shock and growth delay. Just remember that pruning is not like topping/fimming; going apeshit on your plants with scissors isn't going to get you more/bigger buds. Just cut off dead leaves and leaves that are in the way and you'll be fine.

so if i fimm instead of top i will get more colas? and after how many weeks from seed start can you do this? i need to keep my girls short, stubby, fat, and bushy with the highest possible yeild.

If I were to cut my plant in half, cutting off about 3 leaf sets, would it still grow back two tops? ....cause I did that with mine impulsively and the nub at the end hasn't shown any signs of growth and even looks a little bit burnt. Should I cut it again just below?
