Yeah bro thats about right. It gets kind of expensive when you step into quality ballast. I use a dimmable lumatek 1000. Cost me around 550+$ for everything including the hood and super hps bulb vs the 280$ total i spent on my 400w apolo w/hood 2 bulbs and some mounting accessories. Surprisingly i have never encountered a problem with apolo.

Hey eb I'd go with the Apollo horticulture 600 watt combo as well. It can be found on amazon as well and has decent reviews. About the same price and it comes with both mh and hps bulb. Good luck.

Btw maybe you should go with the 1000 watt. It will cost only about $60 extra. Also you can dim it down to 500 or 750 watts. Once you pull your first hps crop you're gonna wanna go bigger. Lol. This will save you the cost of buying another setup.

For sure man, ive had quite a few grows under 650w of CFLs, but this would be my first HPS grow. Id probably keep the CFLs around the plants for supplemental lighting. Just harvested 2 northern light autos and a PDXA (pink diesel x amnesia). The northern yeilded alot more but the PDXA was much better bud!

You can definitely afford 1000w hPS/mh with 250. Tops. At that. You might have some change left over. Maybe a tad bit more for all the air cooler and whatnot. Maybe you should save and get you budget to around 300-350? You won't regret it, in this hobby patience is everything. Get a higher budget man, you will be happy I guarantee. While you get more cash, cut back on costs, snacks, unnecessary shit, clothes, for about an extra 2 weeks, idk your financial status, but I'm sure you'll be happier with a 350 tops budget. Look at hydro stores as well, not just amazon. They ship free as well. Amazon is the WalMart of online shopping, everyone knows it.

I can afford 350 no problem, but im seeing i can get a 1000w hps from apollo that has good reviews for under 250, with the air cooled hood included. What else more can i get with the extra 100? Can you provide any links for me? that would be great man!

The northern was from sensi seeds, the PDXA i have no idea man it seems like it was a one and only kind of seeds i cant find them anywhere online. But i have seen others grow it, infact there is an entire thread dedicated to the strain on this website.
I got 90g and 39g off of the 2 northerns and 45g off the PDXA

I have the 8" version. Any hood of the same style will work 6" or 8" . I cant guarantee a less then 80f with a 1000watt in a closet! Yes people say minus well get the 1k, i bet most of em didnt think about your current situation. If you overbuild your ventilation system for a 1k you would more than likely be fine but were talking 500cfm+ for the closet and 500cfm for the hood.
