fire hazard question

the room ill be growing in is about 3 feet in length but only 24 inches in width...the hood and reflecter i have is about 22 inches wide...leaves me just enough space but not much room from the walls...i can leave the closet door open when the lights are on with fans blowing...no other venting or cooling tho...ballast will be sitting outside the room on a cinder block...is this going to be a concern for fire...is it possible the back wall could catch on fire from too much heat from the lights ?

thx

ps...400 watt system...lumatek electronic dimmable ballast and a yeild master 2 hood and reflecter

Walls on the sides of the ballast are going to get hot forsure but not hot enough to actually catch fire. What is the wall made of?

it'a a closet in a trailer...whatever those are made of I'm not very good at that stuff...on the hood i did take the glass off...figured it would help cool the system better...but should i put it back on to try and keep the heat going out the sides of the hood...back wall is really close to the hood that's what I was worried about..hope I'm making sense here..ty for help +

that hood is made to run ducting & an exhaust fan to it.
put the glass back in & hook up a duct & fan & you will not have a problem.if your fan is large enough, the hood should be warm(not hot) to the back of your hand.

yeah this isnt an option though...running the duct and fan isn't an option...just fans outside the room pointing in

I have the exact same hood and ballast and I run mine in a GL60 which is 2'x2'x5'3" but I have mine with the hood vented though, without it being vented it got pretty hot in there. even if you could put a small 6" inline fan just to blow are through the hood would help it keep cooler. Keeping the light cool also has the bonus of having typically a longer life :)

Well way you want to do is possibly build a box slightly smaller than the closet with a closing door. Then cut exhaust and inlet holes into the door on the box. Boxes cost maybe 25$ to build. Check out the 250w grow I'm starting(in my signature) also it won't burn the house down. Might kill the plants but no fire. If I were you I'd build a box or buy a tent. Like I said check out mine for ideas too like 1 hour to build, start to finish. Also google inline fans or you can probally get away with and inline booster running 24/7 and some 6" ducting leaving hot air outside the grow area and cool air to enter. When I run my 1k light with a 230cfm 25$ duct booster I can put my face on the glass and it's cool(don't put ur face on it) hoped this helped some. Happy farming

im looking at tents now from the link that guy gave http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=GRGL080&eq=&Tp= says it's perfect for 400 watt systems...my question is how loud is the fan that vents the hood...are some quieter than others...i have a landlord that hangs around outside a lot...not close to the trailer or anything like 100 feet maybe...but he also comes inside for the rent once a month..would the noise from the fan be loud enough to hear from the other side of the trailer...also do u intake air from the room and exhale it or whatever its called back into the same room or how does that work

Mine is a tight fit in my closet and the tent that I have barely and I mean barely fits the hood but it works. Duct booster fans aren't too terribly loud but i don't think a booster will push enough air if your going to put a scrubber or something on your exhaust. But the inline booster without the scrubber should keep the light cool.

Also with the noise I don't know how thick the walls are on your trailer but I have a veg/clone cab and the tent in my room and with both running you only hear a small humming of the fans outside the room with the doors closed. and even with the door open you don't really hear it unless you get within about 6' of the door.

im pretty confused i dont understand this really lol...what would i need just to cool that hood...would i need that inline fan you linked to me earlier or a duct booster fan...is that all i need is one fan and ducting...not worried about smell or anything just noise

lol if this isnt an option then your grow is doomed....sorry to say but that is a NOOB mistake, you have over looked the most basic and important part of your grow room design....venting out your old hot air to some place other then your grow......

so if its not an option then fixing the problem is pretty much not an option eather.....good luck though

noise will be an issue if your worryed about it.......I have to line the walls of my spare room with sound damping material and i use a 4foot duct silencer i also use insulated ducting and i rapp blankets around my fan....all this to help with noise.... i live in apartment and yes noise is my most pressing problem i worry about.....

thx for responding..do you know if there is any fans that are quieter than others...i too will use the insulated ducting...i live in the country i just dont want the landlord to hear anything when he comes to pick up the rent

also ill have the grow room setup in an big empty bedroom but i cant have any ducting going outside that room or out a window or anything like that..im constricted to that room itself...will that be good enough to do what i need to do...as far as moving warm air out and hopefully getting fresh air in through the opening in the tent itself...i dont want two fans or anything pushing in new air...sounds like it will be too loud
