PH Meters are only 30 bucks max. do not test over your water. I have broken three of things on accident. :fire:

Your on the right track and that is gathering as much info as possible before jumping into it!!

If you're scared of pH, run soil.
Throughout my entire time running soil, I've never checked pH once with no problems. Soil is a great pH buffer by itself.
As long as you use good soil, you'll be good. If you're still doubting yourself regarding pH, make your own organic soil and add a bit of dolomite lime.

Okay So here is the one I have broken a couple of times (not it's fault, I'm just careless):

And this is the one I have now:

Make sure you get some 7.0 to calibrate it every couple of weeks. I always re calibrate if I get a weird reading. Otherwise I have done my nutes enough that I know where it should be at within a point or so.

You don't really need that much:

I use to test right over my rez. Lol not a good idea.

Check your ph before watering.

If your in hydro, aero, etc. Do a check every day.

A few tips i have picked up along the way, try let your water sit overnight and if you storing feed in a larger butt don't just assume that its PH is the same the next time your due to feed as my PH has a tendency of going from 5.9 to 6.1 after water/feed has been sat a day or two

I tried those cheapo meters and bought the calibration fluid and all that and all it was was a pain in the ass. I grow in soil. My city fed tap water is stable between 6 and 7.0. I let it sit in jugs till I need them, and once throughout the run I give them a dose of lime. ( Preferably dolomite) and I quit messing with the meters and the up/down crap a long time ago.

That may work with soil. Coco, Hydro, Aero, Etc. require a ph. Otherwise you end up with this:

Not my plant just off the ol' google machine.
