First Colorado outdoor grow questions

Hello all. New to RIU. Im considering an outside grow this year and had a few questions for those who have successfully grown outdoors in CO, specifically the metro area. The area in my yard I'm considering to grow recieves approximately 5-6 hrs. of direct sunlight, the rest of the day it is partial to fully shaded. I plan on vegging inside, placing outside, and covering for 12hrs. to force flowering. I'm hoping by doing this, I can have several harvests from mid May (last frost) to fall. Question #1: Is the 5-6 hrs of direct sunlight followed by 5-6 of shaded sunlight enough for flowering, or must it all be direct? #2: when does the 12 hr. dark period technically start? Does it start as soon as the sun has went down and complete darkness has set in? #3: Im planning on using Subcools super soil. Has anybody have experience with supersoil outdoors in colorado, either by using directly in ground or in pots. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to roll it up.

I think you should be more concerned about the fact you're growing in a metro area, in your yard none the less. Unless you are sure you have maximum security for your plants, you should grow indoors.

1. With the 5-6 of direct and indirect, the plant will be fine and she will remain in her vegetation stage.

2. Around October-ish, is when nature's 12 hour darkness period technically starts, give or take a week depending on where you are. Honestly, you are in control of this and you are free to flower her any time you choose. I recommend at least a foot and a few inches before flowering her.

3. I recommend using a pot for your plant. I'm not too fond with pure soil plants in the ground, because of the risks it brings. With a pot you can easily move her around if things get serious, but your stationed plant will have to endure some tough conditions. But that is more of a pessimistic side, I say stay optimistic and overgrow the government.

Well, it's now legal for anyone over 21 to grow 6 plants in CO. Technically, all the ammendment states is that plants must be in a secure location. There is nothing stated specifically that says we can't grow outside. My yard is secure anyway, but I will be taking advantage of it until we are told that outside is a no no. My thought was that I want to force flowering outside with a cover so that I can get a few harvests during the summer with smaller plants, rather than growing a few larger ones the whole season. Ammendment also states that we can possess one ounce, but we are able to keep all product grown on site. I think I will keep in pots. I was more concerned about if my light was sufficient and was really curious on what the actual onset of the dark period would be in relation to the sun setting.

As far as growing outside, I think its risky. I remember last year some people got busted for having (these were even registered care takers w paperwork at the area of the grow) plants outside inside locked cages. Maybe w the new laws things will be different, but it came down to high schoolers jumping the fence and ripping buds of the massive plants and taking them to school to show off how cool they were. Dumbasses. Just a word of caution.

The security risk is not in regards to the police, it is in regards to rippers. IMHO. We're going to see a lot more backyard grows, and a lot more people ripping off back yard grows.

Worst case scenario, if things aren't clarified, I'm told that they have to be inside. I know I'm not getting arrested by following law voted on by the people. I'm pretty confident in the security of my yard. I say metro area, but that don't necessarily mean in plain view and readily accessible to anybody walking by.

Rippers aren't gonna throw your ass in jail tho bud. Ever been? Trust me the 600$ for a tent, ac, light and ballast youll spend are worth the time. But go ahead and walk your own path.

The pigs will get you if they want to, period. I have grown outside, and it was an expierence. But don't get me wrong I won't be taking that route again until its law that's its legal. Maybe contact a lawyer snd see what they say... I don't want to scare u, just don't want anyone to end up in the joint.

I've grown outside the last 3 years in a spot that sounds similar to yours. Mine probably only gets about 4 hours of direct sun a day. The plants will get stretchy but will finish just fine, although they take a bit longer than they would in full sun.

Hi I am looking to relocate to Colorado eventually. Is there any way I could work as a caretaker for a patient? How do I get my foot in the door as far as learning how to grow? I am interested in opening a dispensary as well but I am going to take it one step at a time...

Why work as a caretaker to learn to grow? Just grow your own. Only reason to get a red card will be to escape taxes when purchasing from the dispo. I may not even renew mine and just smoke my own crop tax free ;)

Nothing yet, but the regulations will be promulgated very soon and are expected to include a ban on outdoor growing.

You can't cage the smell, and thieves can find ways to get in even a fairly secure yard. Moreover, there is what's called an "attractive nuisance," which I believe a mj plant would be. The result could be that a thief gets injured trying to steal from your outdoor grow, and then sues you for the injury under an attractive nuisance theory.

You shouldn't be a caretaker if you don't know how to grow already. You can grow for personal use under Amendment 64, though.

Kinda been in a small suburb my whole life. Can't deny the fact I'm a little afraid to move out west, but I am a true smoker and I feel as though I should have been born in California or Colorado not on the East...People out here are completely different. The culture and lifestyle is different. I can't drink because I'm allergic and I'm sick of being criticized for smoking. I can't do anything to relax? The bud out here is always commercial crap and overpriced. I definitely belong out West. I have the money, but I'm not so sure if I will be able to find a job. That's why I would rather work for a dispensary or grower first. So I can get hands on experience and get up on my feet before I get a place to rent. I don't really have any connections out in Colorado either so I will pretty much be on my own...I have done some research and I have videos and pdfs full of info, I definitely want to head towards the 100% organic route.

The West is the best. The West is the best. Get here, and we'll do the rest.

Just ask Jim Morrison.
