So i finally got a place to grow so i bought a basic Hydroponic set-up an sum northern lights seeds. Here is a link http://www.maharajjisgarden.com/emilys-hydroponic-system-p-5961.html

Its Day 2 on the seed germinating i can now see small white tails popn. I was told my next step would be to put them into the growing mediums that came with the kit, i was wondering how do i know if the 1x1 cube growing medium has enough water? also another concern is when putting the seed in the medium does it matter how far i put it?

i appreciate the help

just make a small whole with your finger tip and place the sprout root down and lightly cover. you only want the sprout to be about 1/2 inch down. as for water just dont let the top dry out till you have some leaves. good luck to you on your first grow.

I see wut your saying, how long do i keep my plants in the small mediums? do i transplant the medium into a larger pot with the (i got a huge bag of clay balls that i was told to put in the pots and put my growing medium in)

day 5 December 7th 09
The seeds germinated completely tonight i started them in the growing medium and watered them, the light i have on it right now is only a fluorescent tube light, almost 10inchs from the plant, dont chu think i need the lights to be way closer and shouldnt i use a 400 watt light if i have it?

day 9 December 11th 09
the plants have just started to pop out of the medium one of them stands at around 7inchs the others are shortly along. for the moment i only have a 40 watt hp sodium bulb and 2 flourencent tubes on it, will that be enough?

i would just use the flouro tubes, or find a cfl (twisty bulb -daylight, 6500k, cool blue, all the same) untill the plants are large enough to handle the hps. its very easy to kill a new sprout and hid lighting is generally way to much for them unless you really know what your doing. keep the light far enough away to not dry the medium out but not to far that the plant starts to stretch.

i beleve once you start seeing true leaf's you can add the hid light to the mix. alot of people just veg under flouro's as it will reduce stretching early on. when they get into flowering than they add the hid lighting.

have you though about the rest of the setup yet? you got a little time to get everything ready but it never hurts to get started early.

minnesota eh? neat, me to.

alright. and no not yet i was thinking about what i need to do and im a little lost on how to set up the system.
hell yea! Minnesota is a cool place, you got alot of snow where your at?

down to 11 plants. the one farthest front didn't make it. It was an experiment to prove germinating seeds is a better method to start out plants. as you can see the seed is still on the plant (this picture was taken prior to the break in the plant) i put the seed in the medium (without germinating) and have noticed the plant behind the one that broke is planted the same way and it has developed a purplish color on the leaves.. Other Plants still looking really healthy and no longer need help standing straight
