only reason i asked about the easy rider being relative of the deisel rider is the way your buds are formed... to me, its looks a lil more like a deisel strain and not ak... but truly, thats just my opinion... no factual proof... i agree with the screen being good for a "lift" during the first lil bit of veg... i have another one i will prolly use for the beggining of next grow... if it ever gets here... lol... its seems like its gonna be for ever with my planned schedule... i guess its a lot to do with having patience.... lol...

Hey guys!

Just wanted to let you know I'm not dead :). Travelling today... five states, six cities, twelve hours. Yuck. I'll be back home for a bit this afternoon, so hopefully I'll have a chance to check out the plant, take some pictures and update on harvest date/time.

That's an interesting observation! I've wanted to grow some Diesel Ryder for a while, so perhaps I'll do a side-by-side if I decide to expand my setup. I'll keep you posted!

Hi everyone!

I was home for about ten minutes yesterday, so I had roughly ~30sec to take pictures in the time I wasn't re-packing for the conference I'm attending. Boy, does my room smell! I was only able to snap about five pictures, and only two of those are sort of okay:
IMAG0269 (Medium).jpgIMAG0273 (Medium).jpg

I'm a bit worried about my harvest schedule. I could have sworn I was starting to see more amber trichomes pop up in the few days before I left to visit my girlfriend, but in the short amount of time I had to check it out yesterday (after five days of nute dilution) I didn't notice any ambers. Most are clear, some are cloudy. And as you can see, I probably only have about 10-15% brown pistils. Urgh.

Anyway, I guess I'm mostly wondering what all you experienced growers think I should do. I realize now I probably should have given it a bit more time before starting my harvest nute flush. Will I be really gimping myself if I harvest in four days like I planned? I can see the plant maturing a little in that time, but definitely not going from mostly clear/cloudy to 40-50% amber and 40-50% brown pistils. Should I start adding nutes for a bit again when I get home? Should I harvest some and leave the rest to finish up?

Either way, I learned a heck of a lot from this grow :). I think I'll really be able to maximize yield out of the next one. Good stuff.

I think you will be "gimping" yourself if you harvest before their time. The last week or so of ripening puts on a good bit of bulk and potency. I think you should at least wait till you have about a 10-15% amber. You can also watch for the pistils to recede as a good indicator. You may do a first and second harvest as the tops ripen and allow the popcorn to continue and ripen. I'd add a mild nute mix, or maybe a molasses type feeding for a few days then do a rez change earlier than normal if they ripen quickly. Just be wary of this because they can ripen quickly depending on the strain

Oh yeah, the calyxes will swell as the hairs brown and recede. There are a lot of white hairs, so definitely needs more time.

Thanks very much for the fast reply, gumball. So now I guess I have two options... wait until I get home (11/6, evening) to start adding nutes, or call up my roommate who has been helping me out and ask him to do it. I'm not so sure about the latter, as changing my reservoir is a fairly involved process. I haven't gone over how to do it step-by-step with him with the intention of teaching him how to do it (he has watched me do it once or twice). I guess a sub-option of my second option would be to ask him to add a very small amount of molasses into the RO water he is using to top off the reservoir.

TLDR; I'm worried that if nutes aren't added for the next four days any maturation might be stunted anyway. Travelling sucks sometimes :-\.

Well you can't just add something to the rez, as you know, without PH fluctuations. So if the roomy knows how to test the pH just have them add some molasses, about a tablespoon per gallon, then test and adjust the pH. Seems the easiest approach. You may even be able to find a youtube video of how to do it and have the roomy take a gander before he performs any steps.

Get one of the molasses that have all the goodies, cal/mag/potassium/iron, etc. The link I dropped ya listed which ones had which.

*nod* Right-o, that's the plan then. He knows how to adjust pH and stuff, so I'm not worried about that. I'll do a bit of research and call him later today.

I returned to my apartment and opened my computer case to find my plant slightly yellowy and generally not looking too great. About 60% of pistils were receded and brown and it looked like there was no real return in sight, so I'd have to chop her.

I decided to forgo the live stream harvest for reasons of security. I hope this is understandable.

As I chopped, trimmed and manicured I learned many new things about the way my plant grew, and I started to develop a plan for my next grow relative to this information. The plant had quite a bit more undergrowth than I realized. I had tons and tons of little popcorn buds around the base of larger colas. A lot of these buds didn't get much light over the course of the grow, so they looked a bit less developed and they were a very light green color; some of them were almost white. But everything was super fuzzy and sticky! Yum :). I don't want to put the new plan in writing yet because I don't have it completely finalized, but know that next time these immature buds won't be a problem, and I should get much more filled out top buds. A lot of the reason for this was simple horizontal overcrowding.

After I finished the chop, I decided to smoke a little bit I had plucked about two weeks ago before I began travelling. I rolled it up into a ~.2-.3 gram joint (I didn't weigh it, purely estimation). Here's a preliminary smoke report:

The taste was slightly plant-y due to having been plucked so early and not being cured at all. It's surprisingly not very harsh, and I enjoyed the whole joint without feeling an overwhelming need to cough. I started to feel some effects about three or four tokes in. I finished roughly two thirds of the joint and put it out. The high is very cerebral (my favorite kind!) and pretty intense, but in a fun way. I can't see myself getting tired of it.

Anyway, this much got me to a solid [8], just about the highest I've been in quite a while. About 45 minutes later after I had finished getting a wet weight I was at about a [6.5] so I decided to finish the last third of the joint. It easily got me right back up to an [8]. Now it's ~2 hours later and I'm still just coming down to a [5] or so. This is really great stuff :). And the best part? What I smoked was cut almost two weeks ago! Imagine how good it will be now!

I was slightly skeptical as I was chopping her down, but after experiencing the high she gave me I'm completely satisfied with this grow. I could have done things a bit differently to get a slightly higher yield and slightly denser buds, sure, but I now have plenty of cannabis that gives me my favorite kind of high. What more could you ask for? I'm a happy guy.

Plus! I have a huge box of trimmings and smaller popcorn buds with which I'll be able to make a decent amount of hash! Any suggestions on what kind I should make? I'm thinking iso hash because it seems the easiest.

Without further adieu, I present pictures!

Here are a couple from my travels today :). First, from the shuttle:
IMAG0276.jpg

and then from the plane:
IMAG0278.jpg

I got home and took the last pictures of my plant alive. You can't really see the yellow coloring on the leaves, but believe me she didn't look too great.
IMAG0284.jpgIMAG0283.jpgIMAG0282.jpgIMAG0280.jpg

Here she was roughly half way through the chop:
IMAG0285.jpg

And here she was after, along with her root system:
IMAG0287.jpgIMAG0288.jpg

Here are pictures of the finished product, set out to dry. The pen is for scale.
DSC00270 (Medium).jpgDSC00279 (Medium).jpgDSC00277 (Medium).jpgDSC00276 (Medium).jpgDSC00273 (Medium).jpgDSC00275 (Medium).jpg

I decided about five minutes ago (roughly two hours into drying) to take a picture of the largest bud on the scale, and found that it had already dried up from 13.67g to 11.89g! Wow :). Hopefully most of it will be ready to enjoy and/or jar in a few days.
IMAG0297.jpg

The total wet weight is 168.55g, or roughly .37lb == 5.92oz. I expect to end up with a dry weight of at least an ounce. Huzzah! I'll let you know in a few days. (Plus, I'll have whatever hash I get as a bonus.)

Thanks so much, everyone, for all of your support, advice and encouragement. I really couldn't have done it without you all backing me up.

I just finished reading your entire thread and I must say bravo on that harvest.

I just finished my first PC grow last week and I was very pleased with my results of 100 grams wet from a soil/LST set up with the strain Onyx from short stuff breeders. Mine dried up to just about an ounce so im sure your will achieve more.

I grew lowryder #2 last summer and I was blown away with the potency so im sure you will be pleased with the dankness from your ER. The joint doctor makes great strains

Thanks for posting such a great and informative thread Im going to set up a hydro/scrog as soon as I can in my PC case because you have shown it is a much more effective method for these PC micro grows.

Cheers to an amazing harvest! that shit looks dank bro

congrats man, looks awesome. from that wet weight i would expect 34-42 grams dried. still a very good pull from a PC case. great job all around, but she did have a bunch of white pistils from the last pics. how did the trichs look?

Bud looks dank! and im sure it will be over an ounce dry!
Amazing work bro!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my harvest! I'm pretty happy with it, especially for my first grow :). It can only get better from here!

Hey, no problem man! I'm really glad the thread could be of use and has inspired you to set up your own hydro/ScrOG system. You'll definitely have to keep us posted! Feel free to ask any questions you might have -- I know it's not completely straightforward from the start.

*nod* That's just about what I'm expecting. I can't wait to jar it up in a few days :D.

The white pistils in the last pictures were pretty much only at the tips of some of the calyxes that may have been a bit under-mature. Probably 90%+ of the pistils on the main bodies of the buds were brown (the pictures make it pretty hard to see this -- I just looked over them and indeed they make it look like there was a way higher ratio of white to brown pistils than in actuality). The trichomes were a mix... from an overall perspective they were still mostly clear/milky (probably 80%), but the problem is they appeared to be shriveling up starting from the outsides of the leaves and travelling inward. I was afraid if I left it for much longer she would just look worse and worse.

Sure, in an ideal world I would have harvested about a week from now, but you live with what you get I suppose! I'm still very happy. Then again, in an ideal world I would have done quite a few things differently throughout the course of the grow. Plus, this will allow me to set an easily breakable (hopefully) goal for my next one. Hooray!
