First Ever Grow

Hey all! I'm Alex :-P

I wanted to try my hand at growing, more for the experience than to get anything at the end.

My idea was for a windowsill grow of a small plant- what better way to start than Joint Doctors' Lowryder? Small, auto-flowering (don't have to mess with light cycles etc.) and perfectly happy on my windowsill.

So I germinated a regular Lowryder seed in paper towels with de-ionised water, and low-and-behold 12 hours later I had a nice white shoot. I sterilised a pot and some compost in the microwave, and dropped the sproutling into its final home and stuck it under a 20W CFL desklamp.

I'm going to be documenting my grow here, and I'd love to hear any tips you've got and experience that might help me on my cannabis journey before I attempt something a bit bigger and more demanding.

Tip #1..... Don't feed it for at least two weeks!!! Then, if you go to a bigger pot, wait another week or two. By that time, you should have read up on things, and can make the determination for yourself, whether it's time, or not.

Tip #2.... Don't water it again, til the soil is almost completely dry.(like 80%) Then, water thoroughly, and repeat, over and over......

Tip #3..... Concentrate on 1 and 2.

P.S. Double the light, at least, and keep 'em within 3" of the top of the plant. 1-2" is even better, if heat isn't an issue.

This sounds like decent advice. I wasn't actually planning to do *any* supplementation, thinking that the compost alone should be plenty for a strain with such a short life cycle.

I've been watering every 3-4 days by standing the pot in a saucer of deionised water. Is this a bad idea?
