First Grow 400W HPS/MH in 3 x 3 tent.

Looking awesome Liquid! Those babies are nice and lush-type green too Neva done a soil grow, but I'm glad I can watch this one from the start I gave you some rep for the setup and thanx for swingin by my thread...I'm sub'd up!

So from previous entries you may remember that I'm having issues with my night temperatures (Although its crazy warm here for december it still gets mighty cold in the basement of my 1920's home)

My temps were falling to the high 50's at night.

I had a little space heater outside but I didn't like that idea as I don't trust those things safety-wise.

So I went out and bought one of these little propagator mats from Lee Valley Tools




This should keep the girls a little toastier at night. I've reset my thermometer and hoping for things to remain in the high 60's tonight... Fingers crossed


Also I transplanted my big girl #2.




Call me crazy I just love looking at the root system of plants.



Here is a shot of her happy in her new larger home.



I'd love to switch to flowering in a week but these little guys are slowing me down. I have another 250 MH ballast that I might put them under so I can switch these two to flowering in 5-10 days. Hopefully then things will get a lot more interesting!!!!



My only concern was this little spot on one of the little dudettes.. She was damaged during transplanting.. but I could've also spilled some of my water/feeding on her.. any thoughts?






The other plant seems to be doing okay

My just be the upper-growth sucking the life outta the bottom growth mane. I usually get that as well at the beginning, which to me is no big deal because I trim her skirt anywayz Im thinkin about investing $5 in a bottle of SuperThrive. I've been reading nothing but good things about it and it's supposed to really kick @ss in the recovery/plant-stress reducer area I'd give her a couple days and see what happens. New growth looks good and neonish so yea....we play the wait game :/

looking great man, might have spilled a little solution on it, if you think thats a possibility...i dont know i wasnt there

ii would keep an eye opn it if it starts to spread more begin to worry if it stays on that 1 leaf your fine

Okay. I've got some pictures to diagnose.. I have no idea what happened but almost overnight my plants have gotten a few brown spots on them. At first they were just on the small plants (as seen on previous posts) but now it seems to have spread to the larger plants. I'm worried its spider mites or some other kind of critter but have no idea what to look for.. I stared at my leaves but couldn't see anything moving. I'll post this in the plant problems section as well but thought someone following this might be able to help out....

The only other thing that I hope it might be .. is I was spraying some water mist on the plants and maybe they got a little cripsy? Hoping that is all it is...

I've also decided to go into flowering. If I'm having any kind of issues now I wanna throw these into flower right away and get whatever I can after all the time I have invested... I've separated my little ones and put them under a 250w MH in a separate area and the big girls are under my 400 HPS now...

Also another quick question for y'all....

I was in at my local hydro shop and the guy that works there.. (who is really helpful) said that I should know 100% if my plants are male or female by this point. I don't see any balls and I only see the single hairs at all my node sites on the two big plants. I'm hoping this means female for both.. but here is another quick shot if anyone is able to tell..

hard to tell with that pic but if its a WHITE hair its female, post a couple more pics.

Hey matt.. thanks.. I'll go down and take a couple more shots.. and try to find those white hairs.. I've seen the ScROG you've applied.. i'm looking forward to seeing it grow through! .. I'll have another look see .. post more shots soon.

Not sure what that is bro. Hopefully it doesn't continue! Hope you get some help soon. Hard to tell by that pic if its male or female. Happy growing

have you PHed ? it would be first step to proper diagnosis, if your PH is fine then you know its not lockout. if the PH is off you can refrence a chart to see wich nutes or micro's are locked out at your current ph level then go from there.
i hate giving diagnosis on here its really impossible to tell from just a pic without propper information.


if your not seeing any mites chances are its not bugs, nott to sure what other bugs can attack indoor grows but havent heard of anything other than spider mites. generaly if there are mites you will see little white spots on leaves and see the little buggers.

Okay and forgive the noob-ism but what is the best way to take the pH? I have a solution tester but it is only accurate to .5 pH and by colour only.

Do i take some soil from near the roots and mix it with some water? I've heard that testing the run off is not an effective way to test because the water wasn't in contact with the medium long enough.

or do I need an accurate pH meter?

I'd pick up a soil PH tester. They aren't all that spendy! PH lockout sucks. What are you getting for readings now?

Ottawa sorry about the spots on the babies. They'll grow out of it! Instead of nute lockout do you think it was caused by the cool temps?

I got my beans today and placed my order for tent, light and fans. Hope you help me out on my grow journal!

best bet is to use a good soil PH meter, you can also test using the drops and distilled water soaked with a good sample of your soil (middle to bottom of pot)

i have just strips for a fishtank i use my PH is way off i need some lime i believe but im broke lol.


im pretty sure 6.8-7.0 is "ideal" but dont quote me on that, if you google "marijuanna nutrient lockout chart" you will get a chart that tells you the different nutrients that get locked out at what PH lvl.

can also test the PH with what you have now, if its the drops it will be fairly acurate, if there seems to be a big PH flux then think about taking a sample to be tested, local hydro shop or greenhouse can test for you for a couple bucks if you dont want to spend the $$ on a tester.

its funny people say PH usually isnt a issue with soil but seems like i see it as a problem quite often as i surf these forums.

The chart brute is talking about is.also on page 9 of my journal!

Sure did. They pulled through it though! Get an accurate reading and we can go from there. The sooner the better! If its low, dolomite lime is the way to go ($14 for 50 pound bag). You may have to water it in though, since mixing it in your soil won't be an option at this.point. but we are getting ahead of ourselves. Find out that PH bro!

Forgot to post an update that I've been doing a little LST to one of the plants.

1st tie down I did a couple of days ago...



2nd tie down I did tonight



She likes it all tied up! You can see the one other tops forming better in this lower shot. I see about three potential tops. Q: Should I prune those two large fan leaves (top of photo and left side of plant)?

BTW: This LST plant is what I think might be a female.. I started and stared at her and her flowers are different than the larger one that I haven't performed the LST to. (so I'm thinking it's the male)

I'll do that man. Thanks a lot for the tip.
Going to get some seeds at a nursery tomorrow. Hopefully they have something like that. If they don't maybe the hydro store will have something reasonably priced.
