first grow and after almost 5 days, 1 finds its way out of the soil

i've been using mg potting mix along with mg moisture control. I've been using 2 tray planters the one that was completely undisturbed is the first to show life, i think last wednesday when i started i randomly placed about 6 seeds in each tray planter(didn't take the time to germinate them in the paper towel). I've just recently learned a little little bit about organic mg and learned even less about perlite which i've noticed is supposed to be very important.
I'm learning as i go, up to last night i was ready to give up on the seeds and prepare to start over, so than i turned the lights out for over half a day and when i came back i found her/him. I haven't used special lights either, i've used a lamp that has a 13w cfl and then a touch lamp which would produce some heat for the humidity and what not.
I have picked up the 23w = 100 cfls and the socket adapters on sunday. So, with all this said i am looking for any further advice or future advice towards helping this one maintain growth, helping others rise from the soil, and so on from there.

I've recently started on my first seeds as well, and they took between four and six days to germinate, with a couple of latecomers around the eight day mark. We should probably just stop fussing and wringing our hands like a couple of old biddies.

Research is the key my friend and everyone here will always tell you that. Read, read, and read some more. But with that being said I'm not one of that a**holes who don't help out, but most people wont hold your hand, oh yea welcome to RIU.

MG potting mix is really not that good for growing mj. You can use it, and I do recommend just using what you have, and get a grow under your belt, until you go out spending money on a lot of stuff. MG soil will work fine for now but you might want to mix in some perilite just to get some better drainage. Your going to want to get some more lights also. 2 23w CFLs are not going to grow 6 plants. Your gonna want to upgrade to some 42w or at least get more than 2 23w. Of course a fan for some air movement. Umm if you give some more information about your grow space, etc, I could prob help out more.
