First Grow Attempt

Hey all,

I recently decided to take a shot at growing some grass, just for personal use and something to keep me occupied. Just wanted to get some input from the experienced growers to aid in me hopefully not ruining a thousand seeds lol.

A little about my setup.

-3 Plants right now, about 4 days old, and 3" tall. (Most of it is stem, with the first 4 little leaves on the top.

-2x2ft Grolux(sp?) lights

-I converted a walk in closet (8' tall by 6' wide) Tar paper on the floors, and covered all the walls in tinfoil.

-Flat panel heater right now keeping the temperature at 30-33 degree's celcius

-Ionic air purifier (I actually bought one to combat tobacco smoke in my house, and worked great so bought another for the room)

-Temperature/Humidity gauge

-Dehumidifier

-2 small fans oscillating the air.

That about sums it up.

Now I have a few questions,

1. Should I decrease the temperature during times when I turn off the lights? (Been giving 20 hours of light per day currently)

2. The strain I'm growing is Northern Lights, what is the ideal temperature range?

3. Right now the lights are about 1-2" away from the plants, at what point should I significantly raise the lights, and by how much?

4. Based on what I listed, am I missing anything? ( I should also add that I'm using Miracle grow soil, miracle grow root growth formula.

I will try and get some pictures posted up here soon, as a picture says a thousand words :)

At the moment I'm really surprised at how quick the little buggers started growing, took a couple days for the germinated seeds to pop out of the soil but after that they just shot straight up.

Thanks in advance for any advice and criticism is also always welcome.

Hello 420

1. keep temps around 76 degrees... plants preform photosynthesis best at temps between 76 and 78..

IF you are supplementing with Co2 and can ensure ZERO bug problems then you can go higher... up to 85-90 degrees

3. since you are growing with fluorescents, you need to keep the lights very close to your plants... less than 1 inch... and you should have a fan running in the room.. ideally blowing on the plants very gently... You will also want to flower when the plants have 4-6 nodes.

i highly recommend this book for any new soil growers... it is worth the investment..

MAKE sure you do not over water...you should be watering with LOTS of water but not lots of frequency... saturate soil and then let the soil dry...
