started a week ago on some of the budhairs. not patches, just random hairs dying. please tell me whats wrong! day 37 of budding. the buds look great and are getting fatter by the day. theres also a un-weed-like stench coming from them, i can smell the dank smell if i give them a shake and then sniff, but just sitting there they smell kind of bad. PLEASE HELP

im no expert but isnt it normal for the hairs to turn an amber/brown colour?
i was expecting a orange or red, again this is my first grow. So maybe im okay i just want to check the symptoms out before i let it go and risk losing my crop. I couldnt find much with the search, i hate the search engine on here.

Do u have a Picture? What r u growing in & How far r your lights & watts? Is it only on top buds?
its not only top buds, its all buds. 400 watt hps. lights are slightly close, like 7 inches. but like i said its all the buds not just the tops. im growing in mg organic/30% pearlite mix. fox farms 3 set.

also i cant take pics at the moment but i have older pics, but wouldnt do much help seeing the problem im talking about

7 inches seems kinda close for a 400w hps... maybe you have some burning that could also cause the bad smell? My avatar pic is like week 7 of flowering on a sour diesel (counting from day 1 of 12/12)

I was thinking the samething... R ur lights enclosed with glass. If not may be too close. Also I had buds get too close too fans...messed with some of the buds but not all. Light burn is poss. still hard to say without pix.

Well, good luck anyways!
thanks, i will get some pics tomorrow somehow and show you guys what im talking about.. and as for the light no it isnt inclosed. but the temps at the top of the bud is around 82. so i figured that wasnt too far past the threshold because ive seen grows where it stays 90 in places.

7 inches is too close, even for just a 400. Move that baby up to at least a foot from the tops of your plants.

Sup Dude,

As for the smell. Don't be fooled. Many different strains don't smell so appealing until it's properly cured. As long as your handling your grow as you have been then I'm sure your brown hairs are just some good old maturing indicators.....
I'm pushing Shining Silver Haze. It has a very light odor (I'm also in late flowering) and sometimes I smell it and remember to take out the trash!!! Don't stress too much on the odor. In fact you may want to be happy, no need for a ventilation system.

Other than that you can check for mold but i doubt that with a 400W 7" from the plant mold, wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell so....

thanks for the info! the light is a little close, but like i said the temps at the tops are 80-82 and thats the main factor there, buds are getting fatter day by day. The only reason im so resistant to moving it up is because that would put my plants out of my tent and i really dont want too do that. the smell has changed over night, i gave one of them a semi-flush last night and the smell has gotten better over night. im so excited because this time period of my first grow has gone by pretty quickly. im 39 days through flowering, 3-4 more weeks on my UFO and 5 or so on my white widow.

thanks for all the input

Snap the long stem, but don't break it off. The plant will mend and begin to grow up again, but buys you time. You can tie the snapped top down to prevent it from standing back up, and it will start turning up towards the light and growing up again.

even at 5 weeks flowering!? seems like not such a good idea considering the high stress factor.
