First grow failed. Starting over.

Yes, hydro is risky buisness for first timers. But, hey, live and learn - in a way I admire your audacity.

But maybe you should set the hydro set up aside for a couple grow and try soil. Keep It Simple, right?

Look, all you really got is a 400w HID - you don't need hydro just for that.

If I were you, I'd get some really good feminized seeds, 5x3 gallon pots, some Miracle Gro Marijuana Herbicidal Soil, and a mercury swimming pool thermometer (they are very accurate), set it all up, water it occasionally, maybe folial feed the flowers with some kelp extract, and then just grow some weed.

The light and temperature are the most important factors - also, as you have learned, it is very easy to fuck up a whole crop with too much fertilyzer and also by keeping the roots too wet (they cannot get oxygen if the soil never dires out).

If that sounds unambitious, well, let's see you do it. Growing high grade herb is not all that easy.

Soil is not an option for me. I like risky business. And to be honest, I found hydro to be very easy. Im a complete nub who didnt know anything and she still grew like a tree. Now that Im armed with a little experience and the right information i have no doubts i will be pro after a few grows. I would love to do a large reservoir with 4 or 6 sites but due to my experience im gonna stick with one plant for now. If this grow is a success i will cut me 4 clones and will go that route for my next grow. As for srog, i have done a little reading but not enough to fully understand the concept. I know the basics, use a screen to train the plant to grow outwards instead of naturally. What im not understanding is why i would want to do this. Im assuming its to control the plants growth when you have less room to grow in your tent. Does it also increase the yield or have any other benefits? If so i might try it this time around.

My advice is go soil until you have a grow or two under your belt. i love hydro, but job 1 is to learn your plant. Job 2 is to go all techy on it. Jmo. cn
Yes, I agree. Putting the horse in front of the cart. Learn how to see what the plant it telling you before you follow it's progress simply by environmental readins.

I appreciate the advice but i must respectfully disagree. In my mind soil is what the cave man did. This is 2012, there are newer more effective methods. Im not going backwards. Win or lose this is the path i have chosen and i am sticking with it.

I no the feeling in having to chop a beloved plant my last grow was a disaster but strangely enough my first was a success. I agree with these guys about starting off in soil first seems theres a lot more that can go wrong when using hydro.

I know the advice is good but its not for me. I have made up my mind. First hydro, then aero, after i got those under my belt maybe soil just to do it and compare. But for now my focus is hydro and i will not be discouraged. :-D

Did you get past germination yet? I got lucky, the first seed i planted popped up quickly with no fuss. She also grew quickly despite all the mistakes i was making. I got to 6 weeks before she finally had enough.

definitely go with soil for a while. just save all your hydro equipment or sell it. soil is fairly inexpensive and you can grow them in 5 gal buckets that you can get for free at many restaurants. iv been in soil for a while and still mess up from time to time

Exactly. Thanks for the support supersoul. There is no point trying to steer me in that direction so help me be successful with DWC. I put a new seed in a rockwool cube yesterday. I will definitely log it with tons of pics along the way.

My seed just cracked and i can see it coming out. I turned my light on and was thinking about leaving it on 24/7. Is there any benefit to having the light on at this point?

Im doing hydro for my first grow, I chose bubbleponics and did about 6 months of research before I ever started. Ive got a lot of book smarts on it but there isnt any knowledge like trial and error and actually doing the grow yourself. So far my plants are doing great im just getting into the second week of veg. Good luck bro, hope it goes better for you the second time around!!

IMO keep her in the dark until you can see root actually coming out then flip on the lights.

Everything that I have read says to keep your seeds in complete dark until you see root coming out. Then put in your medium rather it soil, roockwool, or whatever and just barely cover the entire seed and turn on your lights. This will induce growing by making the plant search for light. Hopefully someone with more experience can tune in and give ya some more info on this.

Your suppose to get atleast 1/4 " and up to an inch on the sprouts before putting it into your medium....and its suppose to stay dark and from there goes into the medium again with no lights until they break the ground...seeds dont really need the heat unless its below 60 degrees i believe and i would'nt use lights to warm it up. and as scuba said barely covered hmmm about almost a 1/2" into the medium

420 the thing about scrog and few plants is like giving your plants or plant a FLAT TOP haircut (lol) you let the top get all the light and the bottom gets trimmed.. so instead of having a christmas type tree you will have a a square top... i recommend it !!!
