First grow - first harvest

Hi all,

So checked my beautiful babies this morning and they have grown up!!! Going from numerous guides they recommend to harvest at around 30% amber trichs, well I'm getting close and hoping that Friday would be a good night to say goodbye to the plant and hello to the drying..

Any tips for a first time grower on harvesting and drying? I know they need to be in the dark and I plan on hanging then inside the tent I've been using but what sort of temperature is best while drying and other conditions?

Also any other advise for drying and curing anyone with a wealth of knowledge can offer me??

I would let the plant sit in 24hrs of night the day b4 you chop to let the tricombs mature just that little extra..then chop each branch down..i dont FULLY trim of all the fan leaf and foilege till there ready for the jar, so that all the juices and nute's fully drain into the buds...i usually hang them upsidown in a dark cool 60-75 area..and let them dry for about 5-6 days untill the branches are DRY enough to bend but not SNAP..then put them in closed mason jars for 3-4 hour intervals(which is going to bring out the excess moisture out of the center of the buds) then bring them back out to dry(process called burping)id do this for at least another 3-5 days, then after that you could prolly leave the cap on the mason jars the whole time for about another week(this is called curing) after that you should be ready for lift off:bigjoint:...but remember the longer you let it cure the more potent the bud becoms

Wen i say nutes i mean the natural nutrients that are in the plant..b/c you should REALLY flush your plants b4 you harvest

Hey dude congratulations, exciting times. Here's my routine take from it what you will, My buds are better than any Ive ever bought apart from two exceptions so here ya go.

When they look ready to smoke at the end of lights out I chop em whole and hang em up.
Then I cut off one branch at a time and remove fan and shade leaves.
All the branches get hung up and i aim to keep the temperature at 25C and humidity about fifty/sixty.

I have an oscillating fan blowing under them but not on them and after five to six days when I can still bend the stem but the buds feel crisp I cut the buds from the branch and stick them in a jar.

Within twelve hrs the jar will have moisture visible and the buds will feel wet.
I then put the buds on a drying rack or in a brown paper bag and when they're dry they go back in the jar.
After a couple of days when the jar opens and the buds feel sticky but dry they stay in the jar and I leave the lid off for half an hr just to let the air exchange. Over the next couple of weeks i leave it open for less and less time.

Now there's loads a people that'll have you believe you should take two weeks to hang and dry bud and then a month to cure it.
But I had a fuck up once and I came home to check on the dry room and the heating had been on full all day and the buds were dry as a crisp, I cut em all off, put em in jars and the next day they were moist and after curing they were absolutely pukka.

The reason was because there was still moisture in the stems/stalk. The whole process of curing is repeatedly rehydrating the buds by drawing moisture from the stalk, throughout the bud.

So the moral of the story is to jar your weed before the stem snaps and you'll have a pukka smoke in a few weeks!

Awesome help! Thanks both! I just can't wait for it now. Luckily my temps are around 25c already and I have a dehumidifier which has a setting function on it so I can set it to 50% and leave! Already been and brought plenty of jars as at a glance there's a fair bit on there!! Don't want to over estimate at this stage but I think I've been extremely lucky on my first grow!! Wooohoooo

[QUOTE="NyQuilkush318, post:
It really all depends on the conditions out side(temp/humidity) you really want this to be consistent while its going
Through this drying/curing process

Just to update everyone harvest went great. Took a looonnnggg while with 2 of us going at it. It's had a good few days drying and needs a bit longer before curing I think but so far the yield has been amazing. The first mandala plant gave me 11 ounces the second 13, and the cheese that didn't have the best start in life still managed a respectable 8 ounces. Can't wait to get them in the jars now and then try out the finished stuff!!!

Also is it normal for it to loose it's smell almost completely once it's dry? As they really have no smell now and I'm assuming it will return with curing? Well hoping lol
