Harvested last week friday. Been about 6 days. Now in jars. buds turned crisy but stems dont snap put into jar but cut up buds with the stem/stalk attached into jars and burping every 6-8hours.

Buds hardly smell dank.. smell like hay and taste is very bland hay like..

What do i do? i have ordered humidipacks

Do you have a mini humidity guage to put inside your jars? They have to be a constant 61-65% for about two weeks. Theres many things that cause a hay smell (usually its the growers fault). If you dont know the humidity inside your jars then its just a guessing game man. I use reptile humidity guages bought at petco for about 3-4 bucks, work for me well. If you have the right humidity a proper long cure will usually rid the hay smell, well from my experience.

basically;

first day or 2 was 24C with 60-70RH
then 19-21C with 50-60 RH (next day or 2)
then cripsy and put into jars..
fan was blowing on the side of the tent under buds
when touching buds they were seriously crispy dry
i did wet trimming which was such a pain
unfortunately not measuring RH in jar
buds get moist (spongey wet like) every few hours so i am taking it all out for a few hours and putting back in..

With that temp and humidity, after 4 days they should not have been crispy dry, unless the fan was blowing right on the buds

When I harvested too early my weed smelled like hay. Not good hay like alfalfa but just ditch hay.

Man... early into growing, I used to wet trim as much of the sugar leaves as I could, getting it as close to bag ready as possible before hanging it up or putting it on strings in a box etc. I figured it saved time and was gentler on the trichomes. But that was where I ran into these sort of issues. It smelled awesome as I was trimming, then a few days later the buds would smell like hay or grass clippings. Even when I was very careful to jar right away and carefully monitor the cure... the smell was always at least diminished.

Then I started thinking about where I live. Colorado. It's super dry here. I needed to make sure the dry time took longer.

So I tried just trimming the big fan leaves, and leaving all the sugar leaves on to hang dry with the bud. Just like that, night and day difference. The sugar leaves trapped so much more terpenes that way, the dry time extended to about 8-10 days, and the smell/taste has always been right on ever since.

So that's the main point imo. You really want to get a dry time of at least 7-10 solid days, before those stems are cracking and ready for jars.

If you live somewhere on the drier side, avoid trimming really any of the sugar leaves, let them hang over the buds, and stick with only the big fan leaves at harvest. Let them hang for at least a week, and even before you put them into cure, they should have good taste/smell that only gets better as you cure.

You should only wet trim if you are worried about it being too humid during dry time, and you expect that leaving the sugar leaves wouldn't let them dry out properly within 2 weeks.

Either way you decide to dry, you never want to go into cure with grass/hay smelling buds hoping that the curing process will bring the magic back. It doesn't work.

grow again! Not much you can do if jars aren’t bringing it back.

sounds like you harvested early or maybe had a stressed plant that had a rough life? if your grow went smoothly and your plant was happy, you had milky trichomes and all your pistils turned orange and receded and your buds swelled and smelled dank, and now Hay, well then i would do some more reading about harvesting/curing.

Im going to agree. Sounds like you jared them too quick. There is a lot of moisture inside that you can't "feel", and over saturation made it go bad. I hate to hear that bud. Always my biggest fear is this critical moment. Grow on!

Bet you grew with chems in a sterile medium. Drying/curing sticky caked up dank is not complicated. Growing with chems makes everything suffer. Put the bottles away and go buy a bag of compost soil next time. Not off the internet. Got to a local source. I guess it takes seeing 11/10 dank in turkey bags to truly understand and tear the veil. Colorado is a fine environment, grow stores got people chasing their tails is all.

The best dank in the world was never put in a jar until it was in the end users hands. And the grower never even heard of a humipack..

Mine bounced back with pungent ww sweet smell. I cut too early last grow, had the hay smell. Threw in jars with 62% humidity and after two weeks of burping that beautiful pungent ww smell came in hard. BUT I am sure it would have been better if I didn’t cut early like an idiot.
