DAY 19 : 2/18/2009

I changed the res out yesterday and incorporated some clean, fresh water. We had a cold spell down here for a couple of days and res temps got to around 60 F, I didn't throw on the heater because it came on quick.

I took some pics and am noticing a few things a day after the res change.

I don't know if I have the 400w HPS too close, it's not burning the leaves... They are fat and the plants are more thick & bushy than tall. It's exactly what I want but does anyone know why these aren't getting taller ? (My guess is I need to move the light farther away).

Also, some other the leaves had a yellowish tint to them due to my abuse of NUTES... I'm an ADDICT. haha. No really, they were too strong for a few of the plants. On the flip side, the roots are dark where the Botanicare nutes were of course (bitches... lol), but the new growth was white as rice. Cool.

I'm thinking about moving a plant or 2 to one of these 5 gallon bucket systems that they have at my local hydro store... But here's my dilemma. The 5 gallon bucket system they sell has it's own nifty net cup that is molded into the lid, if not part of it and quite larger than the 3 inch one's I'm using. Does anyone have any idea on how to transplant to the larger system without messing up the roots.

Other than that everything is going well, I do need to get another camera for some better shots.

If anyone has any suggestions or salutations... please have at it !

go buy a lid at homedepot or lowes for a 5gal bucket then cut the required hole to hold your current net pot. hell while your at it buy your self the 5 gal bucket, airpump, airstone, and some tubing. prob a lot cheaperr then the hydro stores 5 gal systems.

 looking good. i used a 14 gal rubbermaid container. ended up using my homemade pots (same height as 5" net pots) and now it holds about 6.75 gals of solution. 2 plants per. it is easier to change and maintain than 4 buckets.

Dude... I love your plants. They are thick & bushy just like mine except you have no nute burn...

And yeah, your system seems tight. When I first began my research, mostly on this fantastic website, I would hear from most of the 'veterans' that it's better to grow a few large plants than have 6 in a Bubbler. I didn't understand until my plants started growing !!

I got a 10 Gallon container much like the Stealth BP one, that I'm going to modify to house 2 like yours. YOU HAVE CONVINCED ME SIR. REP. (oops... it said that I have to spread it around before giving it to you again!! LOL)

Hey brah...

I'll have to research emily's garden, not familiar eh...

I'm having some more yellowing issues, but it's only the bottom leaves. The tops of the plants are vibrant green with no signs of light or nute burn and about 12 inches or so from the 400w HPS. They literally crack off, but again all the plants from there up are gorgeous. I need to get a better camera, that's for sure and get some quality pics.

ANY IDEAS ?

I flushed for 48 hours with fresh water and they got a little burst of height growth, then back on the nutes where they are drinking nicely. :weed:

What I found with mine is once the leafs are damaged when young, they don't recover and slowly die off. As long as the new & above growth looks green & healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine were slowly dieing back, so I cut them off.
It's great watching them change!!

Excellent advice, Thanks. I trimmed off about 10 leaves maybe, not too much, just the bad one's.

I don't have any pics up because they haven't changed too much and I need to work on getting another camera.

QUESTION TO ALL: I am battling some outdoor temps, last night in the mid-30's... ridiculous in the south right now. And it's definitely stunting growth, I know it. Do you think I should flower for 5, or maybe 6 WEEKS ??

THANKS!

Thank you for the kind words SikSol...

Well, I had some unexpected events come up that made it difficult for me to sit down, write & post some pics, so here goes.

DAY 26:

It's been about a week since I've really done anything to the plants besides throw one of the larger one's (There's 2 big ones, 3 medium sized one's, and 1 runt of the bunch). I moved the one because it was growing so wide it needed some more space. I made the mistake of not taking a good look at the rubbermaid type 10gallon tub I purchased so I was only able to fit one plant in it, filled to 5 gallons in the res.

This will be a temporary move until I can get around to getting one more decent tub, that I can fit 2 plants in.

I haven't switched out the res with new nutes for about a week and all is going well. They're drinking about 1/2 gallon a day and going strong.

I have been BATTLING fluctuating temps, but other than that they are all growing except for ONE. The runt is still the runt.

I can't have a fan on them at this time because of the cold so I'll have to make due. Hopefully this doesn't affect the strength of the roots that much, but I have no idea... again, this is my 1st GROW.

*** The only bad thing at this point is that I'm getting some drying up & yellowing of lower leaves. The others are right on the money.

I have pruned off the dead leaves and was wondering if I need to prune anymore ? They seem pretty bushy and WIDE. Maybe too wide ? Please help if you know....

THANK YOU. :peace:

Yakrz,
I took your advice and on DAY 27, ending up the FOURTH week of VEG I moved the other big Snow White to it. Now, I've got 1 Snow White in a 5 Gallon Bucket with 3 Gallons of nutes, 1 Snow White in a 10 Gallon res with 5 Gallons of nutes, and the rest which consist of 1 smaller Snow White, and 3 Venus plants in the 10 Gallon BP Original res with 6 Gallons of nutes.

THEY CAN BREATH NOW, and are already reaping the benefits.

You know I heard from all kinds of people when I began this venture that it's better to have a few BIG plants than small one's... NOW I KNOW. REP TO THE MASTERS.

Here are a couple of pics after my split up of the plants.
I just went in there and WOW they're standing straight up and can breath. These things are getting so bushy I don't know what I'm going to do when I begin flowering and they shoot up! I guess I could have worse troubles.

In any case... Any suggestions/words from the group ??

Pretty please... LOL.

lookin great dudeeee

Thanks Bro...

You know, now that I have the 2 largest plants in their own separate reservoir they are taking OFF. One is growing about an inch a day and getting wide at the same time. INSANE. They are so gorgeous.

Next grow, definitely going to use the bubbler to get them going and then transplant to 5 GAL buckets, for my situation, there is no other way. Probably do like 4 or 6 fat plants, that's it. I'm also going to get a MH light and add that to the mix.

I'm on DAY 29 right now, and am going to let them VEG for another week or so, then flower.

It's weird though... I have 2 fat one's, 3 medium sized, and 1 runt. I've pretty much discounted the runt, I doubt I'll get anything. But I want the 3 medium sized one's to get just a tad bigger then I'm ready.

On another note: I still cannot tell which strain is which... (VENUS ? SNOW WHITE?) and the pics on Nirvana don't show the actual plant, sometimes the same pic is used for different plants so who knows what they really look like.

Does anyone know of a true guide to marijuana strains with TRUE pics ?

THANK YOU & REP TO ALL THAT POST !

Thanks man... REP to you.
Yeah, the more pumps the better, to an extent.
I have 3 res now but only 1 pump per res. I'm going to make the rounds about town today and get some more pumps & airstones. Actually going to hit an aquarium store because Wally World just has junk, though I might hit HD/Lowe's before.

I think the trick is getting it like a hot-tub literally. The more air to those roots, the better.

Good luck & throw up a Grow Journal and lemme know.

DAY 30 - (4 weeks, 2 days in VEG)

Ok, so I'm maybe a week or less ready to FLOWER. I've decided to possibly go close to 6 weeks even, mainly due to the extreme low temps I've been battling as some have read in my previous posts.

Everything is going well, I even went to the aquarium store today and purchased another Tetra Whisper 100 (I'm not sure what it puts out, but it was the best one they had)... So, I'm working with TWO of these Dual Output air pumps along with the one that came with the Bubbler from S.H. Basically I have 2 airstones in each of the 3 reservoirs. Little by little... I'm learning.

NOW it's starting to resemble my hot-tub.. :hump:

My biggest plant is about 16 inches, next up about 13 inches, two at 10 inches, and my runt is about 7... All look healthy, and all of my mild leaf yellowing is now a memory.

DAY 35 of VEG, which is exactly 5 weeks.

My apologies for not posting pics, I will later today.

The growth at this time has been incredible. I'm at about 2 feet on my biggest and wide like a xmas tree. There's another one slightly shorter but WIDE as can be, with thick bushy leaves. All the others are at about the same size, even the runt, he just took off.

So, I'm thinking of switching over to FLOWER today. 5 weeks seems like long enough, plus the plants seem pretty mature so far. Any thoughts welcomed.

I also started using GENERAL HYDROPONICS FloralNectar into the mix. I was going to use Sweet but the guy at the hydro store said it was better. I don't know. He was looking at one ingredient and showing how GH was better, but didn't go into any specifics. No biggie, I'll use it this time and when I run out just buy what I want.

The 4 plants in the 10gallon res are drinking a minimum of 1 GALLON per day. The other 2 that are in their own res drink about 1/2 gallon or so, if that.

It's funny, now that the temps are evening out a bit, the plants are growing like crazy.

Will post pics soon !! And PLEASE let me know if you have any suggestions on whether or not to switch to veg at 5 weeks.

Thank you.

I think you and I addressed this on another post but if not my apologies. I went and got another dual output pump and I think that's why they all took off ! It wasn't until I read your post again that I realized it. I finally have the temps & circulation of air down and they're bumpin'!

It's true what they say... You will keep learning each grow.

So, now I have 2 airstones in each of the 3 reservoirs and when I open the tubs all I see is a nicely tuned air machine.

I would like to do away with the smaller pumps, and go with one commercial air pump that I can truly regulate because I can even see a need for more air. This is a huge key to this process. HUGE. :weed:
