First Grow - Jack Herer

First time grower.
Started from seedlings.
Organic soil grow.
Soaked the seeds in water for a day, planted them on the 4th of August 2011.
Currently sitting under a 600w HID lamp, it's about 5ft above the seeds which are currently inside a heated propagator.
I've been watering them once a day. However, I noticed the top soil was very dry every time I checked them. So I've recently reduced the lighting period from 20hrs to 18hrs and I've switched from simply misting them with a spray bottle to watering them properly. I noticed the leaves were curling up at this early stage. This is what they currently look like at the moment. I just hope I'm not over-watering them now.

hi JHF. im really excited about your new grow. I really love Jack Herer and im going to grow him my next round. I think that the high is just so outta this world. Perfect really. I love the strong punch in the face stone effect immediatley after taking a hit. Then its just such a groovy happy stoned high. I remember thinking whoever came up with this stain is an absolute genuis because its the perfect combintion of the best of the best.

Your babys look perfect, really . Keep up the love. They do need to be kept moist a lot at this point in there life and misting works really well. I also take a 12ml syringe and feed by watering around the top little here little there.. to get.them down deeper so that their rapidly growing roots will not dry out. I find that using a syringe is a nice soft way of appling the water they need.

I am looking foward to watching you growing theses girls very much. Thanks for starting this journal so that i can watch.

14 days old and I've now transferred them to larger pots.

Out of the 10 seeds I started with. 1 didn't sprout (the smallest seed of them all). 2 are struggling to root properly. The other 7 seem to be doing well.

They look like they're under-watered at the moment so I'll be keeping a close eye on them.

Still only using tap water at the moment. That might be a problem from what I've been reading so far.

I need to read up some more on water usage and consider monitoring the ph levels.

21 days old.

Currently getting 16 hours of light. I may bump this up to 18 hours next week and lower the lighting. It's currently higher than it should be at the moment.

A mistake I made was not putting a fan in there earlier to circulate the air. I've only recently done this. Also I don't have any air intake system. So this was fail.

One plant seems to have suffered from this in particular, another has 1 leaf showing wind burn and a 3rd is growing very slow in comparison to rest.

I've reset the fan so it's blowing air just above the canopy, I may need to purchase a smaller one as it might be a little too powerful. That should solve 2 of the 3 problems. I've given the struggling one some nutrients in the hope it may catch up soon. The rest are still running on plain tap water.

My plan is to house the strongest female on her own (hoping they're not all male or hermaphrodites) and produce seeds. Then try and sort out some perpetual cycle using the cloning method.

28 days old, now running at 20 hrs light on per day

Couple of issues so far. Heat, I think they're a few degrees hotter than what's considered ideal, the weather recently got a bit hotter here so it hit a high of 29c. I've now bumped the fan speed up in the hopes this'll help.
Also noticed a very small flying bugs, I have no idea what they are.
1 of the plants is getting a yellow burn on the tips of the leaves, the rest seem fine so far.
I've also just started feeding them some nutrients.

Day 35

Struggling with temp control. Should hopefully be resolved in the next few weeks when I get some new equipment.

Plants are now 21 inches tall.

Day 42

I switched back to an 18 hr light cycle. I've got some new equipment in, so I'm hoping to take some clones and get these babies flowering soon.

Day 56

2nd week of flowering, I'm running out of space in all directions. I'm hoping to build my own larger tent soon.

Day 70

I've moved them into a new room I've built as I was running out of space. I now have plenty of vertical space available. From 10 seeds, 9 rooted, discarded 3 early on, removed 2 more which were male, leaving me with 5 females. 4 of the 5 are growing really well, the 5th is properly retarded in comparison. Not only does it look about 2-3 weeks behind the rest but I've also noticed that the nodes on it are unevenly placed unlike the other 4. Where the nodes on both sides are parallel to each other. (From what I've read, this isn't a bad thing.) I'm keeping this one going as you never know, it might provide an unreal smoke.

The tallest is measuring at 65 inches (5ft4) . I began flowering them when they were at 21 inches (newb mistake, I've read around 10 inches would have been fine). I don't really have the pot size for this kind of growth but they seem to be ok at the moment, good game me .

I've recently switched to feeding them 500ml each per day. A few weeks back I was giving them a liter a day . Since dropping the feed down the humidity has thankfully dropped to something reasonable. Hovering around 60 at the moment, 50 is supposedly the ideal range. I think I could drop the feed again to 300-400ml range from my guesstimation which should also decrease the humidity a little more.

Other than the large bottom leaves turning yellow, which is to be expected at this point. Everything seems to be ok for now.

These have been flowering for 60 days. 1 of them is nearly ready, it's the one with the odd bud formation at the top. I've looked at the trichomes on it and they're absolutely dense & milky white. Those newly sprouted flowers? on the top developed the past week. The one at the far back is just over 6ft .

Those "growths" are foxtailing. Nice sized buds there. How's the crystals? My JH from seed had a pitiful crystal production, more like a really fine dusting of powdered sugar than anything, but MAN what a high. Funny thing, the clones looked like they were just dipped in sugar crystals.

I grew some Jacks last year and they were indoor grown and they got to be over 8 feet tall. I did experiment on some of them by topping have of them and four different shoots came out. I am pretty sure that we did get more medicine on the ones we topped. The only question I have for you is why did you put your plants from cloning right to the HID LAMP and then raise the lamp 5 feet high? I would have left my clones underneath a florescent light for the first 2 to 3 weeks after they became seedlings that way you could have left the light on 24 hours the growth would have been the same for the first month and the expense of not using a HID for 3 weeks would have saved you some money. When the light is up too high for your plant the bud of your plant will stretch too the light. This will make your plant long and stringy as all the buds will stretch for the light and become too heavy to stand on their own. It can happen to anyone in any room as plants grow at different speeds that is why you may have to keep them at the same height by either keeping the same size plants together or by raising the smaller plants to the height of the tallest plants around them. Good luck with the Jack but know that Jack takes at least 12 weeks in flowering time so be patient!

I was following the instructions I got with my kit at the time, plus I didn't have the money for a decent fluorescent light. I'm now using a fluorescent light for the clones and vegetative growth stage. I'm doing what you've said for my 2nd grow. I didn't realise I should raise the smaller ones so they're level. I just let them get on it with it. I may try topping them to avoid them being like the one at the back. Long and stringy. The smaller ones do have more bud growth from the looks of it. A lot more dense.

You wanna get that light closer to them also. I wasn't gonna go there, but they are pretty stretched out. They look good tho..
