First Grow-Journal

Okay. I had another post but thought id better title this one journal to get more input throughout the process. I have done a lot of research, and been around some good growers but nothing compares to experience....so i decided to gain some. I have them in a closet right now. 3 plants. 6x15 watt 6500k bulbs. 2x42 watt 2700k bulbs.This is currently just for seeding/veg, hope to have small hps by flowering. Ok, well the way the closet is positioned,the plants are right in the middle of it so i have a intake at the bottom with a fan blowing in, and a intake at the top. may put a fan there also later. The temps range from low 80s to lower 90s. I try and keep below 90 if possible but somtimes its hard. Gonna get some more fans, but im not worried because its getting colder outside. Im growing in foxfarm ocean forest soil and have the 3 pack of foxfarm nutrients on the way. Ph testing and its at around 6.5. I am going to get yeast/sugar/water bottle for co2 in a week or two. Everythings looking good right now. The first 2 popped up a little over a day after planting. The 3rd, a day later and is looking a little yellow. Ill post some pics at the bottom.

Oh yeah. Planted on 9/16 at 10:30 pm. Pics taken 9/19 10:00 am. And yes....ducttape is amazing

Almost in the 5th day, things still lookin good. Im on 24 hour light cycle still. Should I run this all the way to flower or switch to 18/6? I heard 24 hours the whole time increases males, but i dont wanna hermie it. Thats my only realy question at this point is what should i do with my light cycle up until the point when i flower?

These pictures were taken 9 hours before the 9th full day. I just got my 3 pack of foxfarm nutes in today and was thinking of givin 1/4th dose of big bloom next feeding. 2 days ago my intake fan got knocked over and the temps spiked to 105 from the usual upper 80s and i think thats why i got 2 orange spots on #2. None of the other plants developed them and it hasnt progressed so thats what ive concluded unless somthing else makes me re-evaluate.

the 2nd and 3rd pictures are of the same plant, the purpose of the 3rd is to show the orange spots that developed.

scratch that, no nutes for a while. Do they look about right for 9 days?

update: day 17 things looking good. Plant number 1 looks different compared to #'s 2 and 3. Number 2 grew the wrong way for a little while but i think i got that corrected now. Number 3 is byfar the best looking plant in my opinion. Also on #2, the leaves curl upwards a bit and also on #1 but on number 2 theres a bit of spots on the leaf, i have pictures.

Anyone know about the spots? Also im thinking of mixing a small dosage of big bloom from foxfarm into the next feeding.

Your grow is looking great man. I dont see any stretching and they look really healthy. I wouldnt stress out about the yellow spots on the leaves, sometimes shit happens. What strain are you growing?

I got seeds from a friend of mine who said they "had northern lights in them" but whatever. Ive seen their plants and its sativa dominant. All i know for sure is that its some gooood green. One of my favorite highs to this day and I've smoked many strains, which is why im growing it.

I just fed them with 1/2 teaspoon of big bloom for a half gallon of water. I ph'd it at 7.3 so good enough for soil. Ive only been watering about a cup per plant. Does anyone know if this is too much or too little?

When you water your plants its important to water them very generously, but not frequently.
Slowly pour water in each pot until water starts to flow out of the drain holes in the bottom of the pot, then let it chill for a couple days.
Room temperature, humidity, plant size will affect how often you need to water.

Ive never really let it run out of the holes. There are holes on the bottom of the pots and little plates build in the pots that catch water but there hasnt been much run out. I basically started out with like 1/2 cup of water and now im on full cups. I only water every 2 or 3 days. I always put my finger in the soil about an inch or two deep to see if its moist.

I was also planning on trasplanting them into 2 or 3 gallon pots in another 2 or 3 weeks...possibly a month depending on the growth.

Dude, your ph is still too high...

and possibly the fert may be too much for such a small amount of water...

Your ph should be 6.5 - 5.5 for soil grow, that may be why your plants are dying.

Get a bottle of ph down by General Hydroponics at your hydro shop, and youll be set

I have ph down i just though lower 7s was acceptable. Ok. I might flush them tomorrow.

Hey, glad I stopped by. Soil can be fine to as much as 8.0, and your plants still shouldn't suffer lockout. So with 7.3 you should have been ok. Although 6.2-6.5 would be more ideal.

The yellow spots on your leaves are more likely caused by hitting the feed solution off the leaves as you water from the top. No drama. Also if you feed now with a solution of 6.0 this will help out your plants a lot in the nute uptake stakes.

Uhhh, never in all the ph research I do and have heard and all the videos Ive watched have I EVER heard of a soil ph range being from 8.0-6.2.


Honestly, skunkkushybrid, if you didnt have an astronomical number of posts, I would ask you to cite your source...

Good idea with the random yellow spots as I hand water with nute water too and have random yellows sometimes, but wouldnt it turn to nute-burn instead of yellowing?

I didn't say it was a good idea... merely that soil grown plants can still uptake nutes up to 8.0. Probably not very good at uptaking them... which over time could cause a lockout with the built up salts... but soil is a very good medium for holding onto salts... which is why he's not suffering from lockout or under nute, imo at the moment.

Yes it would turn to nute burn... the yellow spots will soon burn holes in the leaves.

So long as he correctly ph's now... all should be well. Although to be safe I would under ph a little... say 6.0 dead.

As i said my source is old, but here's a little quote from Jorges Cervantes...

"Cannabis will grow in almost any soil, but it flourishes when the pH is between 6.5 and 7. Commercial potting soil almost never has a pH above 7.5."

It's going to be hard for me to find a source to quote exactly that cannabis can still uptake nutrients at 8.0 with everyone concentrating on the right way to grow. My mind takes in information, and stores it... and I love learning about this plant/herb/weed/tree.
