first grow log.

Not at all -- a first grow is an experiment, so it makes perfect sense to try different strains. I would have done the same if I hadn't only bought one kind of seed. :) But I've learned a lot since then...there are a lot of factors to consider when doing a small, indoor grow.

Straight up krypto! I will have to upload more pictures tonight... I recently (last night) started to train them into a scrog which for thai lights is working out very well wappa is a little more stout than the thai lights so it's having a bit harder of a time adjusting to the scrog. I also am going to, for the first time, hook up my QT Cyclone ozone generator... After talking with a local hydro store who used them and finding out it wasn't as cancerous as I thought it was after all.

Hi Swagg, your ladies are looking mighty fine. :weed: Don't worry about mistakes on a first grow cause as Krypto said, the first one is always an experiment. I would definitely recommend doing one strain at a time in the future as nute, light, temp, and height requirements are different for every strain.

I am glad you decided to scrog because it will increase your yield and help you to maintain an even canopy. To close the height difference i would scrog for about a week longer, then flip to 12/12. The sativa will continue to stretch for 2-4 weeks after the flip, while the indica will only stretch for about 1-2 weeks. So after the flip continue to scrog the sativa for at least another 2-3 weeks, scrog the indica for about a week (maybe two depending on the height of both plants) and then just let it grow...that way, with some tweaking and customizing on your part, the canopies will be even and you will have many, many bud sites.

As for trimming, it is beneficial to the plant as long as you don't over do it. If you see that a big fan leaf is blocking direct light to a few bud sites, don't be afraid to trim it, but dont give it a buzz cut. :eyesmoke: Once you are a few weeks into flower and the stretch has stopped, it is important to trim very liberally under the screen, that way the plant isn't wasting precious time, energy, and resources on excess leaves and stems and directs them to the canopy where the buds are being produced.

This is a pic from another thread (by profgrow) which shows what i mean.

If i were you, i would go with a carbon filter vs an ozone generator. Ozone is toxic to humans and animals, so be careful if you do use it.

Other than that, it looks like you are handling everything pretty well. As the others in this thread have stated, stick to a simple nute schedule...all the expensive additives are just flash in the pan IMO.

Good luck with your grow and ill be following along. Post a link to your grow journal here if you start one, id love to pull up a seat.

these two links are to the journal I've started... I plan to update today sometime whats been changing in and with my room with new pictures lol... I agree on the one strain thing too I'm already trying to find someone to trade clones with locally X-D so far one clone has rooted hopefully the rest follow suit and maybe if the stars line up I can find some purple cow clones. Ha, I'm so glad trimming the blocked bud sites is ok because I seriously couldn't keep myself away from doing it; every time I walked into the room I was like ahhh must fix...

so far my nutes have been pretty simple and I have yet to use any of the expensive nutrients that were given to me ha ha... seems kind of ironic but whatever, would you use any of them at all for a grow? or are they all just a load of bs?

Thanks for the picture of the SoG/scrog ... -loves the eye candy-

Should I employ the 1000w hortilux bulb when I switch them to 12/12 or now?

Going to throw these ladies over into 12/12 for the first time tonight... Just started a seed of Afghani that I found so hopefully it takes and it's female; it's one of those rare dispensary seeds ;-) ... SCROG is coming along very well IMO, slowly getting towards an even canopy...

also, am getting my clone/germination setup well, set up first and foremost is my light which I believe is a T5? Also, its approx ~4ft long. anyone know? I took a picture of the only sticker on it hopefully it's appropriate for my purposes as it's the only thing I've got atm...
I know my set-up is ghetto, LOL... I went to buy net pots to make my bubbleponic clone starter but, alas they were out of stock so tomorrow I'm going to to go try again and hopefully will be able to get it running in the next couple of days.

finally got my clone machine goin' I'm pretty stoked... Need to get a better/another air stone but, alas I've reached a point of too many air pumps than I know what to do with and not enough air stones...

also, my afghani seed has sprouted so maybe later this week we'll be able to put it with the clones...

update time:They're doing pretty darn good if i do say so myself. These pictures were right after scrogging some of the tall branches down so they don't look as awesome as they did before but still you can see they're very bushy :D...

will get more pictures tonight of the rest of everything else.

Good job....

Plants look happy....I hope you have a strong finnish.........nitro..

here is an update for the clones... they're finally rooting out of the net pots pretty solidly so by monday or tuesday when I get back from a horse show I'll be trying to swap a few of the thai lights clones with a local grower for some white window I'm very excited to get new clones. My Afghani has been having a hard time I believe because I didn't have a lot of perlite to begin with in the cup I was using (only about an inch or so) not to mention my planter cup was basically the smallest thing ever. So I just dumped it out and shook the perlite off and transplanted straight into the hydroton balls. All I have to say about that is It had a lot more root than I had expected and I'm hoping the Ph of the hydroton doesn't screw up my seedling.

IMG_2400.jpgIMG_2401.jpgIMG_2402.jpgIMG_2403.jpgIMG_2406.jpg

just going to add, the net pots are filled I just hadn't done it yet in these pictures.

Hi Swag I am new and i have really enjoyed following your grow so far. I went back through all the posts and pictures you have they are beautiful. Keep up the good work you have inspired me to do a journal on my grow which is much less detailed and organized. *lol* but i am using the rubber maid tubs too along with hydroton and net pots i have a some what odd system its a dwc/ aeroponic 30 gal tub. Have you started to flower yet?

Oh yay! I'm so glad people like my photos I've uploaded! I have massively upgraded my room as of last night and there's been development with the seedling and clones so I will update tonight. I now am no longer in the walk in closet albeit it was pretty big, maintaining adequate room temperature proved to be a challenge... LOL, it's awesome you made your own dwc they're so frigghin expensive. I made mine but, I'm unsure what to do next since I've only got 2 20 gal buckets; I plan to take on a couple of other people who're card holders so I can increase my plant count the next go around. Do you plan to have multiple plants running out of one res'? Have you decided on a nutrient line yet? Will you be scroggin? Yes, I've been flowering now for about 10 days and scrogging since ~ 9 days or so before I flipped to 12/12. These next couple of days will be (I think) my last few days of scrogging. If I had a better camera/took pictures when the lights were off you'd probably be able to see the hairs forming all over the place; however these will take an extra long time to finish I do recall the flowering time for both of these pushing 70 days...

Yeah, your ladies show you take great care of them that's what really makes you happiest showing that your plants look happy too lol. I can't wait to see your seedlings and clones as i have recently made some clones of my own and not all of them are doing that great. I used the gordon grow blocks (rockwool) and today is day 11 and i only have 8 showing roots out of 12. I have 6 in the 3.5 inch net pots 3x2 different strain that i moved from container to container once i figured out how to make a better sprayer set inside my tub and the roots outgrew i would upgrade containers i would have done it a fourth time but the roots are so massively bound together that it looks like spiderwebs so they are bound to the 30 gal and that's what im flowering in. My closet dimensions are 2ft depth 6ft height 4.5 ft length so i could fit a 18 gal tub sideways to use all the space and flower 12 plants at once. I'm very unfamiliar to scrogging i want to try it but i need to research it some more but from what i gather its something of diverting growth to the top part of the plant or buds? Like i said im not very sure i need to look it up. As for a nutrient line up.... I'm so effing lost i have been using bio thrive and calcium along with this root enhancer. But now that i am budding i have just the 3x calcium and bio bud i think its organic not sure. I been bugging my hydro shop's worker for awhile now and im starting to understand it a little more but im on a budget so im not getting all the fancy stuff i will try to get some more stuff tho since i just started bloom 1 week exactly tomorrow morning when they wake up at 4 AM :P sorry for the mouth full i cant wait to see your babies eventually ill upload some stuff i been trying to take a picture everyday or so of them since i dont have a camera to record 24/7 OMG ID LOVE TO DO A TIME LAPSE!!!! lol but no monies for that either.

LOL I know my scrog technique is ghetto also compounding that is my newly attached scrog extension pieces... But it seems to be doing it's job pretty well so I'm not going to mess with it this time around. I had never tried scrog before and found the techniques explained online were kind of confusing so I just jumped into it keeping in mind the point of scrogging (to spread the light). I hope it was worth it in the end. I use general hydroponics I haven't tried anything else but, I do have a regime of other nutrients that I add very gingerly to my res' tanks which seems to work very well for me. Tonight marks their 10th day in the 12/12 cycle and I'm really pleased with the amount of bud development. I'm thinking I'm not going to be scrogging much longer. Sounds like a fun grow! what type of light do you intend to use?
