(?) first grow (outdoor) - any concern w/ leaf tip colour on new growth?

Not sure if I should be concerned with the discoloured tips on the new growth (3rd node) and what it is an indication of? (2nd pic)

I'm assuming a slight nute burn from the potting mix's time release caps, considering how young the seedling is (3.5 weeks from sprout)?

Also for 3.5wks it seems pretty small.. only got 6-7wks left of veg time till turning to flower outdoors here in Australia.

- "bagseed" from a decent bud (first pic) - only found the 1 seed in 2oz - seemed viable (juicy and firm, brown w/ dark tiger stripes). Hopefully a female.
- germinated within 48 hrs (paper towel method)
- put into small pot for ~2wks and left out in a sun room and under direct sun at increasing intervals
- end of week 2, transplanted into a 7gal fabric pot w/ "premium" potting mix soil (w/ slow release nutes), left outdoors permanently.


The cotyledons also started to fade yellow yesterday - only have Canna's Terra Vega & Flores for nutes, which I am reluctant to use until the plant shows signs of deficiency.

As far as feeding goes.
You shouldn't have used that delayed nutrient soil. NONE of them are formulated for cannabis. Mineral content is off kilter.

You might think of finding some Powdered Oyster shell and mix into the whole bag of soil at about a rounded half cup.
Dolomite lime is also a very good choice for this soil. Ups your available Mg... If you use the Dolo, skip the oyster shell.

N is likely low also, at least for veg. If you can get a stand alone source for N.... add it at 2%, and up it as needed.
Stop amending N at the flip.

Other then that. You may not need to feed anything else for quite awhile.

GOAL: Get through this run and change soil!

OR

Simply change soils at the up potting and feed as needed.

Being able to "read" a plant? Is really an art needed with tricky soils.....

Thanks for replying, mate.

I agree about the commercial "premium" potting mixes, terrible. Full of bark (wouldn't be ideal for the roots..) and those time release caps would definately cause issues growing cannabis (inconsistent profile, nitrogen during flowering, bad flush)

I'm not relying on the caps for base nutrients (hoping weak and short-lasting granules, tbh), it was the only type available at my local nursery as I'm situated far rural. Ideally I would have made a hot mix / super soil and go organic route.. Or even just 50/50 coco coir + perlite w/ standard potting mix and add liquid ferts. It was spare of the moment.

Also already in 7gal smart pots, and only ~6wks left to veg before flower outdoors (left it late).. so transplanting would be a bit tricky? They didn't seem to wilter or go bad when I did it 2 wks in - responded well, but that was just a flip out from a small pot.

If I can make it into the city I'll try and sort something out, otherwise may have to settle for this soil unfortuentely.

With that said, should give a VERY diluted feed of 'Canna Terra Vega' nute (since you mentioned nitrogen) next week? It is a bit of a baby still, but going into week 4.

IF, it gets lighter color (green) - feed it.... N heavy nutrient. Good luck! Be patient, I know that's hard right now.
