I am setting up my first indoor growroom. I think I got everything I need, listed below. Any feedback in appreciated.

  • 48" X 24" X 60" Hydroponics Grow Tent Hydro Box Hut Cabinet
  • Hydropronic 4" Inline Fan With Carbon Filter Combo Odor Control Air Quiet
  • 400 Watt Electronic Switchable Ballast Hydroponic Grow Lamp System with Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium HPS Light Bulbs, Cord + Hanger, GYO2002
  • Hydrofarm EMSYST Emily's Electric Garden System
  • General Hydroponics Flora Kit 1 Pint each
  • pH control kit by General Hydroponics
  • Hydroton 10 Liter Bag
  • A'Ok Starter Plugs - 1.5 in. sq. Sheet of 98 starter cubes -...
  • 25 feminized Big Bud beans

What do I need beyond this? Is this enough for 6-9 plants?

Thanks Man! I have read a lot and these forums have been a great resource. I will have to look up what FF nuts are.

I have read a wide variety of ups and downs as far as yields. Obviously I am new, but with this type of setup and textbook attention... and assuming I have 6 females going at once ( each with 4 tops )... On average, what do you think the yield will be?

I plan on keeping plants short and close to the light.

FF = Fox Farm and don't get that 400W too close to the light. Welcome to RUI and good luck! For what it's worth I use GH as well. GH = General Hydro.

I would stay with the nutes they sent you. I use them and am very happy.
Six plants in that system is going to get crowded fast.
I would worry about yield yet. Should worry more about keeping them alive.
Your first grow will never come out perfect.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new hobby. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Yeah you are right. I am not to hung up on the yield, but I still want to see if I can get 4 colas on each like Uncle Ben's post on here. That would be sweet. I mean I see so many pictures of multiple colas that are insane and then everyone else complains that it is really about 1 oz maybe 2 on each plant total, but then with 4 good even colas it should be that times 4 right?

I read some of the drawbacks of topping, but this is my first time and I figured I bought enough beans to try and mess up with no worries, so I am going all in and trying to do the 4 cola topping on my first time out.

It sounds stupid, but its not even about bud amount from it. (thought that does not hurt) It's like bragging rights and knowledge that I can produce something that is worth drooling over.

I need a challenge, my company has grown to where I have been able to step back a little and then it got boring, but it gives me the time to really put 110% into every minut detail for this grow experiment. I just want to know what I am missing to make that happen from this setup. Should I get another light? This is a small thing. I don't want to blow up my electric bill. Also I did not put it in the list, but right now the tent is reflective white inside. I also bought a bunch of mylar to line the interior. Would that be better?

BTW, thanks for the warm welcome. I am excited to try this out.

sidenote: I have seen a few people complaining about pictures not appearing in posts. I don't think it's a bug. It looks as though RIU has the images set to only show if login sessions are set. The sessions are not long term, so if anyone sits idle on the site for a moment, it will clear and when you go to a post you will not be logged in anymore and will not see the pics. Simple solution is to login and they appear. Don't know if anyone has already pointed that out, but I hope it helps.

The yield certainly wont multiply your weight.... Many multiple topped plants have a "dominant" cola, bigger than the rest of its competitors.... Your strain choice should dictate how you treat the plant, etc. Your electric bill sill hardly move with 400ws, so stack them up... Overthinking is not always the best deal.....

Per sun systems a 400W should cost $30 per month at 18/6 and $20 at 12/12, this based on 12 cents per Kwh. The white interior is fine, I bought panda film to get that interior finish. I didn't know what he Emily system was so I went and checked it out. I wouldn't try and get that many plants into that system, it only measures 24X16. It.s going to be too crowded and they will have to compete with each other. Look at your picture, if you had to guess how wide is that one plant? 2 feet maybe? That's bigger than the system that you bought. I wouldn't try and be Superman on your first try. If you can get any of the plants to harvest and some good product when it's over it's a success. You are going to make mistakes, we all do. Based on the size of that Emily I would veg all that long either, it's only a 2 gallon res it's not really made for large plants. It looks like a DWC system, most folks grow one plant in more than 2 gallons. My 3 plant roughneck is about the same size 16x24 and it runs 10-12 gallons. I suspect that you will end up with temp issues in the res as well as problems maintaining the ph and ppm. Sorry to sound like a downer but, just trying to help. Good luck with whatever you decide and lets see what the others say.

No man, not being a downer. This is why I asked. All of this is great info. I was sort of concerned with the size of the Emily anyway. I have been looking into how to make a cheap hydro setup from scratch and I can at-least use the pump from the system and maybe use the rest somewhere else. It was the lazy part of me that went with that instead of constructing something. I figure I can easily look at how the Emily is constructed and scale it up for my needs, which you have talked me into doing!

Thanks!

it's still a great buy to learn with. You get to see how things work so you can customize a set up to fit you needs and you can still use the garden later for house plants.

So to get a plant to produce colas like in the picture, I would need some deep pots like 10" across and 8" deep? What would be recommended? I can basically convert a plastic storage bin into a larger basin.

Thanks for all the help. I am sitting on pins and needles waiting on everything to arrive. Ready to get started!

Green, there are a bunch of DIY setups listed here. If you want to do a DWC system all you need is something strong that won't leak and has a good lid. 5 buckets, like drywall mud buckets are popular so are roughneck tubs from rubbermaid. Think more in gallons than in inches. There are also hempy buckets, I have a few working in that system now and so far so good. Really simple and cheap as well, check them out. I like the idea of one plant per container so you can move them and not have crowding. On the down side when it comes time to maintain you will have several containers to change the water in if you go hydro.

I bailed on the Hydro idea since it was my first grow.

The space is 68 inches tall. How long should I veg before flowering? Until they are about a foot tall?

Thanks!
